Sterling College successfully hosted its annual Warrior Welcome orientation for the incoming class of 2024, which took place across various campus locations from August 9 to August 21. The welcome event integrated new students into college life with a mix of academic and social activities.
Sterling College welcomed nine new faculty members to campus for the 2024-25 academic year. Classes begin on Wednesday, August 21.

“We are proud to welcome these full-time faculty and clinical instructors to the Sterling College family, and we are looking forward to how these individuals will engage and interact with the students we are here to serve,” said Dr. Ken Brown, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the College.

Friends and family gathered in the Gleason Center at Sterling College on Saturday morning, May 11, 2024, to celebrate the achievements of its Class of 2024 graduates. The City of McPherson Pipe Band led the procession, and speaker, Ben Ray ’82, current Board of Trustees member and Senior Pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Derby, Kan., gave the Commencement address. The Class of 2024 were honored as part of this year’s program.

What could a coffee-loving mountain goat, a loving grandma named Susan, and a corgi dog complete with top hat all have in common? All three are characters from the creative minds of three soon-to-be-graduating Sterling College graphic design majors. The trio will be displaying their work in an exhibition entitled “Taking Up Space: Women Breaking into Graphic Design” from May 2 through May 10 at the Sterling College Art Center Gallery.

Sterling College journalism garnered state-wide recognition recently by securing victories in the 2024 Kansas Collegiate Media Contest.
Senior Shaylee Gibbs, of Amarillo, Texas, came away as an individual winner.
Also, the Sterling College Observer, which is in its fifth year as the campus student media outlet, received second place in the overall category. In that category, publications can earn one or none of three overall honors within their classifications, which are based on the type of publication and institution.
The Sterling College Education Department has been approved as a participant in the Kansas Registered Teacher Apprentice Model, beginning in the 2024-25 academic year.

The Sterling College Education Department has been approved as a participant in the Kansas Registered Teacher Apprentice Model, beginning in the 2024-25 academic year. The program is a “four-year competency-based teacher registered apprenticeship that offers a comprehensive approach to teacher training, combining on-the-job learning, related technical instruction, mentorship, and a structured wage scale.”

She’s been Serena the Sorority Girl in Legally Blonde: the musical, Katherine in Newsies, Martha in Irving Berlin’s White Christmas, and, most recently, Cinderella in Into the Woods. In addition to her roles onstage, Sterling College senior Keeley Coon has been active in choir, Highland Singers, band, learned the sax for Jazz Band and also been a Resident Assistant in her dorm. She will present her Senior Music Recital next Thursday, April 25, at 6 p.m. at the Sterling United Methodist Church.

To paraphrase Oscar Hammerstein – “The halls are alive with the sound of music!” That is certainly the case in the Sterling College Music Department these days as no less than five graduating seniors are busy preparing for their senior music recitals.
“We believe this is a record for us,” said Arts Director Dennis Dutton. “With five recitals, two concerts, one musical, and five school matinees the last few weeks of the academic year, Wilson and Spencer Halls have certainly been ‘alive’ with the sounds of music and activity,” he said.
