The Sterling College Forensics and Debate team not only competed at the recent Pi Kappa Delta National Tournament and Convention held in Phoenix, Ariz., but was also recognized as being one of few colleges to have had an active team which has competed in the National PKD Tournament for over 100 years.
March is Women’s History Month and Sterling College Concert Choir will be celebrating with their concert “Music, She Wrote” which is slated for this Sunday, March 24, at 7 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Sterling. Besides Concert Choir, the program will feature select ensemble Highland Singers as well as SC Lasses (women’s choir) and SC Lads (men’s choir).

Over 250 high school students attended the 35th annual Sterling College Theatre Workshop recently. The event included two workshop sessions and a special matinee performance of the play Baskerville. Students from 18 schools from Lawrence to Liberal attended.
An exhibit of Polaroid photographs by artist Caitlyn Frazer of Hays will be on display now through April 19.

The Sterling College Debate/Forensics Team traveled to Canyon, Texas, earlier in February to compete in the Sweetheart Swing Debate/Forensics Tournament hosted by West Texas A&M University. Four Sterling competitive speakers competed in the tournament and the team collectively placed second overall.

The Sterling College band program will be well represented this week when the Kansas Intercollegiate Band performs at the Kansas Music Educators Association conference at Century II in Wichita this Friday, February 23, at 2:45 p.m.
A total of nine players from the Sterling College Concert Band were chosen after going through the audition process to join the 65-member intercollegiate band. The Kansas Intercollegiate Band concert is chosen and performs every other year at the annual KMEA conference in Wichita. The band alternates with the Kansas Intercollegiate Orchestra.

What do you get when you mix Sherlock Holmes with over 40 broad, outlandish comic characters -playwright Ken Ludwig’s unique comedy mystery hybrid Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery. The show will be presented by Sterling College Theatre on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday February 29, March 1 and 2 at 7:30 p.m. in Culbertson Auditorium on the Sterling College campus.

When Sterling College Theatre Senior Josh Morris, of Hutchinson, was searching for his senior directing project, he knew he wanted to do something unconventional; something that “pushed boundaries” and yet was heartfelt and emotional but was funny, too. That’s a tall order but he found his perfect show in Every Brilliant Thing, which will be presented in Upper Wilson Hall on Friday and Saturday, February 16 and 17 at 7:30 p.m.

A bit of Broadway came to life for the 14 Sterling College Theatre students who attended the Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival (KCCTF) in Des Moines, Iowa, recently. They were among the 1,500 college theatre students and faculty from seven states who attended the annual regional theatre conference which included workshops, auditions, competitions, and performances, including a performance from Vanities: The Musical from Sterling College Theatre.
