The Sterling College Theatre production of Arthur Miller’s classic play, “The Crucible,” staged in November of last year, has been cited for excellence by the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. Various elements such as set and lighting design, direction and individual performances were cited for the show.
A cast of 23 were featured in the show along with set design by Emily Jones and lighting by Noah Svaty who were both honored for their work.
Dr. Donna Devlin, assistant professor of American history and government, recently was announced as the 2023 Bert Fireman and Janet Fireman Award winner from the Western History Association.

The Sterling College Concert Choir will present their annual Christmas Concert – this year entitled “Love’s Pure Light” this Saturday, December 2, at 7 p.m. at the Sterling United Presbyterian Church. The concert will feature not only the Concert Choir but also Highland Singers, Men’s and Women’s Choirs and a special performance from Sterling Grade School singers. The performance is free and open to the public.

The Sterling College Symphonic Band will present their Christmas Concert – this year entitled “The Sounds of Christmas Movies” at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 3, in Culbertson Auditorium. The concert will also feature the Sterling College Jazz Band and Brass Ensemble. The concert is free and open to the public.

The latest art exhibition at the Sterling College Art Center Gallery does not feature watercolor or oil painting or even photography. Instead, the show will feature a variety of cartoon characters as well as video game imagery and even music album artwork. The exhibit features the work of Thomas Giebler, art faculty member from Fort Hays State University. The show will open this Friday, December 1 with an Artist Talk and Reception from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Gallery, 306 W. Washington, Sterling.

Witchcraft, hysteria, betrayal, adultery, and high emotion all combine in Arthur Miller’s classic play The Crucible. Sterling College Theatre will be staging The Crucible this week on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, November 16, 17, and 18 at 7:30 pm in Culbertson Auditorium on the campus.
Beginning on Thursday, Oct. 12, alumni will travel back to Sterling College to experience the Homecoming 2023 festivities, many of which the community is invited to attend.

Sterling College Education Student Sydney Schmidt, of Colwich, Kan., was recognized at the 2023 Dale Dennis Kansas Teacher of the Year Banquet as a “Teacher of Promise.” The banquet was held at the Wichita Marriott Hotel on September 23.
“This is a great honor for Sydney, and it was a nice evening of celebration for Kansas teachers and for future Teachers of Promise,” said Dr. William Anderson, assistant professor of education.
Schmidt was recognized by Dr. Randy Watson, commissioner of the State Department of Education, at the banquet.
Sterling College was included as one of only 25 schools in the Midwest who were named to the 2024 U.S. News & World Report list for Social Mobility.
