The Sterling College band program will be well represented this week when the Kansas Intercollegiate Band performs at the Kansas Music Educators Association conference at Century II in Wichita this Friday, February 23, at 2:45 p.m. 

A total of nine players from the Sterling College Concert Band were chosen after going through the audition process to join the 65-member intercollegiate band. The Kansas Intercollegiate Band concert is chosen and performs every other year at the annual KMEA conference in Wichita. The band alternates with the Kansas Intercollegiate Orchestra. 

Sterling College band director Larry Brownlee said, “Anytime you can perform outside of your own ensembles it is a great opportunity.  To work under another director, prepare different and challenging music, and play alongside students from other colleges and universities is a positive experience.”

The Sterling College instrumental musicians chosen for the Kansas Intercollegiate Band include freshman Peter Vessey, Columbia, SC, clarinet; senior Rachel Thomson, Hutchinson, oboe; freshman Taggert Reiss, Hutchinson, French horn; senior Natalie Schweizer, Sterling, French horn; sophomore Macy Brownlee, Sterling, clarinet; senior Bryson Brownlee, Sterling, baritone; senior Luke Harding, Sterling, trumpet; sophomore Noah Svaty, Sterling, trumpet; and sophomore Michael Tweed, Pearland, TX, saxophone.
The Kansas Intercollegiate Band concert on Friday afternoon is free of charge and open to the public. Concertgoers are asked to stop by the registration table inside Century II to obtain a free ticket. Again, the concert is at 2:45 pm on Friday at Century II.
