Sterling College has hired Brad Evenson of Hutchinson, Kansas, as director of marketing and communications. Evenson will play a key role in utilizing technology and marketing assets to create publications and marketing that advances Sterling College’s mission and enhances its image and visibility to internal and external target markets.
Hannah Kelley of Wellsville, Kansas, was awarded the 2015-16 KICF Recognition Scholarship.

Sterling College’s Hannah Kelley of Wellsville, Kansas, was awarded the 2015-16 KICF Recognition Scholarship. Kelley is a double-major, pursuing degrees in biology and writing and editing: professional writing. She has a 4.0 grade point average and is expected to graduate in 2016.

Rose Wilson is the assistant director of facilities at Garden City Community College. She likes her job but without a college degree, her options for promotion or working elsewhere were limited. That is when she decided to continue her education. Rose began by earning an associate’s degree through Garden City Community College and used the articulation agreement between GCCC and Sterling College to apply all of her associate’s work toward a bachelor’s degree. She was able to earn her B.S. in Organizational Management in just two years with Sterling College Online.

The Kansas Society of CPAs have joined with Sterling College Department of Business Administration in a beginning QuickBooks class, offering a free, one-year subscription to the students enrolled. The KSCPA is funding the software that will be put on the College network for students in the class to access from any campus computer.

Caleb Watney, graduate of Sterling High School and Sterling College, left his Kansas home Friday to travel to Washington D.C. to begin an internship with American Action Forum, followed by graduate studies at George Mason University where he received a full-ride scholarship and stipend to study economics through a fellowship with the Mercatus Center. His work for the Mercatus Center will focus on technology policy, most likely working with broadband regulation, rural technology and privacy concerns.
Huber’s work was one of 13 works chosen from the 275 pieces submitted.

Manifest Gallery in Cincinnati, Ohio, opened their 11th annual Rites of Passage exhibit on Sunday, featuring the work of Sterling College graduate Shelby Huber ’15 and 10 other artists from across the country. The exhibit was developed to support student excellence, promote young artists transitioning into their professional careers and bring together “positive creative energies of regional and national institutions.”
The Kansas Sports Hall of Fame announced Monday that they will induct Sterling College Former Women’s Basketball Coach Lonnie Kruse on October 4.

The Kansas Sports Hall of Fame announced Monday that they will induct Sterling College Former Women’s Basketball Coach Lonnie Kruse on October 4.
“It's an honor to be inducted in to the KSHOF,” said Lonnie Kruse. “I was totally shocked when they called me and told me that I was being inducted. It's something that you never expect would happen. I would like to thank everyone that was involved in the decision making process and also thank everybody that has supported me and the Lady Warrior basketball program over the years.”
Senior David Amador, a psychology major at Sterling College, was interested in research on social media.

Sterling College Senior David Amador wanted to know if an Instagram profile full of selfies, or self-portraits, was beneficial to the user’s social status. Through a survey reviewing two hypothetical Instagram profiles, one that contained a variety of modest photos, or photos that were not self-promoting, and a second self-promoting profile of mostly selfies. Amador found students felt they would be more likely to be friends with the modest social media profile.
This year, the College recognized Hannah Gardner of Topeka, Kansas, and Tate Strasner of Mount Hope, Kansas.

Sterling College recognizes two students who exemplify outstanding academic achievement, leadership skills and involvement, along with an enthusiastically Christian faith, each year with the Professor Fran Jabara Leadership Award in conjunction with the Outstanding Male and Female Graduate award. This year, the College recognized Hannah Gardner of Topeka, Kansas, and Tate Strasner of Mount Hope, Kansas. The recipients had a GPA of 3.4 or higher and were voted upon by faculty and staff.
