The Sterling College Debate team returned from Texas victorious, winning their 2ndtournament of the season. The tournament was held on the campus of West Texas A&M and co-hosted by Kansas Wesleyan University October 7-9. Sterling had three teams advance to elimination rounds, with Alex Lawhon-Bush and Brett Smith named tournament champions while team mates Jessica Brayton and Nolan Chaney finished 2nd overall, and Brandon Hoesli and Courtney Cavazos placed 3rdoverall. Every Sterling team that participated in the tournament, finished with a winning record.
Wichita, Kan. – The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference announced this afternoon that Sterling safety Brock Frank was named the KCAC Special Teams Player of the Week. Frank earned Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance during the Warriors 35 to 10 victory over Bethel College. The 6-0, 175 pound senior returned two punts for 94 yards. Frank's longest return was for 81 yards and a touchdown. The victory over Bethel puts the Warriors at 4 and 1 in the KCAC, 4 and 3 overall.
Wichita, Kan. – The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference has named Sterling College’s Adriana Gonzalez KCAC Setter of the Week. Gonzalez earns Setter of the Week after compiling 112 assists, averaging 11.2 per game. The Junior Setter also provided the Warriors with 16 digs during the 2 matches played this week. Sterling went 1 and 1 on the week, dropping the match at Friends University and winning at home against Kansas Wesleyan.
The world’s largest trade book fair takes place this week in Frankfurt, Germany, and this year, Sterling College has taken notice. Professor of Theology and Ministry Rev. Dr. Hank Lederle, has a book on display at the Word & Spirit Press booth. Lederle’s book, “Theology with Spirit”, has been chosen by the publisher to be sold at the fair.
Time is running out to see the Faculty Art Show at Sterling College. Showcasing the works of three professors in painting, drawing, and digital illustration, the exhibit has over 25 pieces of art. The exhibit is displayed in the Sterling College Art Building at the corner of West Washington and North 8th Street, one block south of the Gleason Athletic Complex. The work will be on display until October 21, and the gallery is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Sterling College has announced its six Homecoming King and Queen Candidates for the SC Homecoming weekend on October 13 – October 15, 2011. The Homecoming Ceremonies will take place on Saturday, October 15 during halftime of the football game against Bethel College of North Newton, Kansas. Kick-off for the game will be at 1:30 pm.
Sterling College begins its homecoming celebration Thursday with the musical, Children of Eden, opening at 8:00 p.m. in Culbertson Auditorium. In addition to the musical, there are plenty of activities for the community to get involved in and enjoy the festivities.
Kansas City, Mo. - Sterling College has been named a Five Star Champions of Character Institution by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) for the 2010-2011 school year. A Five Star Champions of Character Institution shows commitment in athletics to the five key areas of character training, conduct in competition, academic focus, character recognition, and character promotion. These five areas measure the Institutions commitment to the Champions of Character core values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.
As a way to evaluate its strengths and weaknesses as an institution, Sterling College invited students to part-take in the Noel-Levitz Student Satisfaction Survey last semester. The results are in and Sterling College has seen progress in both increasing our areas of strength as well as areas of concern from the last time the survey was distributed.
The Sterling College Bookstore is going join over 500 nationwide college bookstores to participate in National Student Day, October 6, to celebrate and promote social responsibility and volunteerism by college students.
