Rev. Terrell Davis of Wichita, Kan., will be speaking at Sterling College in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. He will elaborate on Dr. King’s speech, “The Drum Major Instinct,” which emphasizes that one must fight the natural instinct to become selfish and learn to be a servant leader. The public is invited to join Sterling College on January 16, at 1:00 p.m. in Culbertson Auditorium to hear Pastor Davis speak and celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
Laura Bateman, assistant professor of music at Sterling College, received her Doctor of Arts degree in voice performance from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo. on December 9, 2011. She also received the Dean’s Citation of Excellence for her outstanding academic achievement and active participation in the program.
When SC Warrior fans enter the Gleason gymnasium this year, they immediately notice something new. Due to the generosity of First Bank and JACAM, Sterling College has been able to purchase two new basketball and volleyball scoreboards for the Gleason Center.
STERLING, Kan. – Sterling College’s Trenton Stutzman (6-0 SR Guard) broke the Warriors’ all-time career three-point record of 252 made three-point baskets on Saturday night. With his first three-point basket of the game, Stutzman passed Michael Moncrief (2000-2004) and moved into first place on the all-time career list. Stutzman ended the night with four three-point baskets in the 71-76 Warrior loss to the Bethany College Swedes, and now has a career total of 256 made three-point baskets.
Assistant Professor Doug Boardman was recognized for his research and writing on the Pancho Villa raid that occurred in 1916 by having an article published in the International Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences (IJHSS).
On December 24, around 7:00 a.m., a mysterious rock with a protruding sword was delivered to Sterling College. The secret gift was left in front of Cooper Hall and has baffled the administration at Sterling College, sending personnel to their phones and email asking alumni and friends for information.
Dr. Brad Nix, associate professor of music at Sterling College, has been asked by Shawnee Press to serve as a clinician at their annual Music in the Mountains Conference in August 2012.
Dr. T. H. Kwa, professor of business at Sterling College, was sponsored by the city of Sterling’s E-Community Business Group to attend the Rural Opportunities Conference in Salina, Kan., where he received a round of applause for his comments after Governor Brownback’s presentation.
Nine students and three faculty from the Sterling College Athletic Training Education Program attended the Kansas Athletic Trainer’s Society state meeting on November 6 at Kansas State University and won third place in the Kansas Athletic Training Quiz Bowl Competition.
The Sterling College debate team beat regional rival and third in the nation Texas Tech en route to a first place finish at the Cameron University Christmas Classic tournament hosted December 3-4 in Lawton, Okla. This win helped the Sterling College team secure a ranking of 13th in the nation.
