The tension and stress that accompany one’s first business lunch will not be a problem for the Sterling College business students who attended the Phi Beta Lambda business club’s etiquette dinner. The dinner was led by volunteers Teresa Lang and Jodi Besthorn, who prepared students for the etiquette required in formal or business settings.
The concert is on Friday, Jan. 20, and Saturday, Jan. 21, at 7 p.m. in Culbertson Auditorium.

The annual Peacemakers Convocation at Sterling College will feature speaker Christen Price, legal counsel with Alliance Defending Freedom. Price will deliver her speech at 10 a.m. Feb. 17 in Culbertson Auditorium in Spencer Hall. The public is invited to attend this free event.
Price serves as a member of the Religious Schools Team of the Alliance Defending Freedom, where she has worked since 2015. Her team works on protecting the religious freedom of faith-based educational institutions and their ability to form communities around shared religious commitments.

Sterling College Assistant Professor of Theology and Ministry Dr. Glenn Butner published two articles in the fall 2016 semester, one featured in Christians for Biblical Equality and the other in the Journal of Reformed Theology.
“I enjoy seeing our faculty engage in topics that are debated in their discipline, and I believe Glenn’s contribution to each of these topics is important to higher education. Glenn is active in his field and always growing in the faith he is teaching our students about,” said Dr. Ken Brown, vice president for academic affairs.
The endowed scholarship is made possible by a gift from Robert ’45 and the late Barbara “Barbie” (Dietz) ’47 Thompson.

Sterling College has announced the establishment of the Dr. Robert H. Thompson Endowed Mathematics and Natural Science Scholarship. The endowed scholarship is made possible by a gift from Robert ’45 and the late Barbara “Barbie” (Dietz) ’47 Thompson.
“The Thompsons’ legacy continues to grow both at the College and in our community. These opportunities that Bob and Barbie have provided to our students profoundly shows their hearts for servant leadership,” said Scott Carter, vice president for institutional advancement and external relations.

The Sterling College Debate and Forensics team has been successful this semester, already qualifying three students for national tournaments in the spring along with several personal awards.
Amanda Del Toro of Manhattan, Kansas, qualified for the National Forensic Association Lincoln Douglas debate national tournament during her first tournament of the season at Southwest Baptist University. Overall, she placed fifth.

The Sterling College Debate Team brought home nine nutcracker trophies to mark their sweepstakes win at Cameron University’s Christmas Classic Swing, where Gage Brookman of Hutchinson, Kansas, was named tournament champion and third best speaker in Lincoln-Douglas debate as well as finishing in ninth place with his partner Bryce Harner in varsity parliamentary debate. Harner of Hutchinson, Kansas, also placed fifth in Lincoln-Douglas debate, and Elijah Keller and Wesley Lowrey finished fifth in novice parliamentary debate to help secure the tournament win.
Sterling College theatre students will attend the Region 5 Festival in January.

Sterling College theatre students will attend the Region 5 Festival in January to compete for the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarships offered through the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival. Awarded to students who wish to pursue further education in theatre, the Irene Ryan scholarships join with The Festival in recognizing college and university students from across America for excellence in their craft through annual awards. The final winners will be announced April 22.
