While most of the campus was enjoying the first hours of fall breather, the SC Debate Team, along with members of the argumentation and debate class, were hard at work hosting the Central Kansas League Championship. This is the seventh year that Sterling College has hosted the high school debate tournament on its campus.
A sister school has fallen on hard times and Sterling College Athletic Director Gary Kempf wanted to help. An E. coli outbreak from the Cleveland County Fair hit Gardner-Webb University’s swim team hard by infecting an assistant coach’s wife and daughter.
The weekend of Oct. 19-21 was a replay of previous debate tournaments attended by the Sterling College Debate Team – they returned with a first place finish from their tournament at the University of Central Missouri.
Tuesday, Nov. 6, was a big day for the entire country, but for Sterling College Associate Professor of Music Brad Nix the day is significant for reasons outside of politics. On Tuesday, Nix’s first book of piano arrangements, “Sketches in Ivory,” was released for sale.
Michael Redondo, senior at Sterling College, will direct his senior show, “The Odd Couple,” this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 9-10, in Culbertson Auditorium at 8 p.m. The show, written by Neil Simon, will be the female version of the play and is rated PG for mild adult content.
Five Lady Warriors earned All-Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) honors for their 2012 performances. Both Adriana Gonzalez and Sara Steria were named to the All-KCAC First Team.
The annual Heritage Convocation will take place on Friday, Nov. 2 at 10 a.m. in Culbertson Auditorium. Every year Sterling takes time to remember its past, and this year the special tribute to the school’s history will include a presentation about historical events at the College and music from the SC Chorale. The event is free and open to the public.
The curtain has closed for the cast of “Godspell” at Sterling College, but an encore performance will take place in Wichita at the Scenic Landscapes Water Garden Nursery on Nov. 2-3.
