Assistant Professor Daniel Swartz was recently accepted into the Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles exhibit in the children’s market category. His work, “The Sad Little Town,” will be on display at Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra, Calif.
The new year brought two new faces to the staff. Sara Taverner of Chase, Kan., began working as an assistant director of financial aid, and Emily Zerger of Derby, Kan., began working part-time for the Office of Admissions.Taverner is a graduate of York College in York, Neb., where she earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology.
After an 11 year hiatus, Sterling College is bringing back Robert Burns Night as part of the 125th anniversary of the College. The event recognizes the achievements of Robert Burns, Scottish poet and songwriter, and is celebrated by Scottish communities worldwide on his birthday, Jan. 25.
Dean Jaderston became Sterling College's men's basketball career leader in victories on Thursday night in Wichita, Kan. The Warriors delivered victory number 108 to Jaderston with an 87-75 win over Friends University after trailing by five points at halftime. Jaderston surpasses Jim Woudstra, who had a Sterling record of 107-192. Currently, Jaderston is 108-87 at Sterling and 158-203 as a head coach.
Working hard to pursue passions often opens the door for unexpected opportunities and experiences. Such was the case for senior Andrew Drake of Craig, Colo., who was recently recognized for receiving his certification in athletic training. Following certification, Drake is now able to practice as certified athletic trainer and can begin working professionally.
This past weekend at the Christmas Classic Tournament, the debate team captured first place in parliamentary debate as well as Lincoln-Douglas debate. The tournament was held at Cameron University in Lawton, Okla., on Nov. 30 through Dec. 2.
Students choose to go to college not only to enhance their knowledge, but also to become proficient in a field that they hope to pursue as a future career. Such was the case for Sterling College senior Andrew Drake of Craig, Colo., and Jonathan Lovercamp ’09 of Beaumont, Texas, who were both recognized recently for receiving their certification in athletic training.
The Board of Trustees has announced that Executive Vice President Scott Rich has been named Interim President, effective December 1, 2012. Rich has been serving as acting president managing the operations of the college and leading the College’s cabinet since May.
