In Matt Ehresman’s Web Design class, technology was not only the foundation for the course material, but was also used as a creative teaching method. Ehresman, lecturer in communications, connected the students in his class with Sam Hoover, assistant manager of social media strategy for Focus on the Family, through Google+ Hangout, a video chat and conference service.
Five students in Sterling College’s pre-med program have taken advantage of a collaboration between the College and the Sterling Medical Center to team up with physicians in the community to better understand the roles and responsibilities of physicians.
Ryan Ehresman, senior at Sterling College, will direct his senior show, “Leaving Iowa,” Friday and Saturday, April 12-13, in Culbertson Auditorium, at 8 p.m. The show, written by Tim Clue and Spike Manton, is a family-friendly comedy. Tickets will cost $5 and the box office will open on show nights beginning at 7 p.m. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m.
The Warriors Track and Field team traveled to Joplin, Mo., over their spring break to help with the continued clean up and rebuilding efforts from the 2011 tornado that killed 161 people and left a trail of destruction over 22 miles long.
With advancements in technology, there are more opportunities for creative teaching methods in the classroom. Professor of Theology and Ministry Dr. Henry Lederle took advantage of the possibilities that technology provides by inviting the author of a book used in his Intro to Missions class to interact with the students through Google+ Hangout, a video chat and conference service.
Based on his ongoing research at Quivira National Wildlife Refuge, Assistant Professor of Biology Dr. Jonathan Conard gave a research seminar on Feb. 4 at Wichita State University. His seminar was titled "Patterns of Association Between White-Tailed Deer: Assessing the Potential for Chronic Wasting Disease Transmission."
The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) is pleased to announce 82 football student-athletes that have been named 2012 KCAC Scholar-Athletes. Sterling College led the way with 18 student athletes named to the group.
The debate and forensics team had a busy spring break at the JV Nationals Tournament hosted by Hutchinson Community College from March 8-10. The team took first place in each individual debate event, leading them to capture first overall and defend their JV nationals champion title from 2012. The tournament was open for all students in their first or second year of collegiate competition.
