Following a season in which the Sterling College debate team was ranked in the top 25 in the nation, this fall the team has picked up right where they left off by winning each division of the second annual “Debates on a Plain” Tournament, held at Barton College. Amassing an overall record of 20-1, the team easily captured the overall team sweepstakes and was named the championship team in both the varsity and novice divisions. The “Debates on a Plain” Tournament was one of the largest tournaments in Kansas this fall, hosting more than twenty competing teams.
Sterling College will host its homecoming Thursday through Saturday, October 16-18. This homecoming marks the first annual “Run with the Warriors” 5K. Festivities also include three productions of the musical Fiddler on the Roof, soccer and football games, the dedication of the new Douglas Residences, Homecoming Hangout, the Pancake/Sausage Feed at the United Presbyterian Church, and the Homecoming Parade through downtown Sterling. Sterling College has announced its eight Homecoming King and Queen Candidates for the SC Homecoming weekend on October 16 – October 18, 2008.
Candidates are selected by fellow classmates and employees of the College. Candidates must have a least a 2.5 gpa, be in good standing with College and must be a senior or a junior who plans to graduate in the spring.

Sterling College will welcome alumni and friends to campus for the annual Homecoming festivities on Saturday, October 18. The Sterling community is invited to participate in the day’s events as well.
New this year is the first annual “Run with the Warriors” 5K run, which will begin at 8:30 a.m. on the McCreight Track. Those wishing to participate in this run can contact Jack Dillard at 620-278-4224.
Sterling College senior Ryan Covey has been named NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics), Men’s Soccer “Offensive Player of the Week” after his two stellar performances in Sterling’s victories last week.
Covey led Sterling to a 2-0 record last week, scoring six of his team’s ten goals last week and tallied two assists.
