Carter named Director of Advancement

Scott Carter has been appointed Director of Advancement at Sterling College. Carter is a 1983 graduate of Wichita Southeast High School and a 1988 graduate of Sterling.
Changes in the Advancement Department brought about the need for a team leader who was familiar with both the College and the community. “I’m thrilled to be back at Sterling College during this time of transition,” Carter comments. Carter’s ties with the community are also deep, and he maintains connections with family who live in Sterling and its surrounding areas.

SC Christmas Concert set for December 7th

Christmas Rejoice! A Musical Event” will be held Sunday, December 7, at 3:00 p.m., in Culbertson Auditorium on the Sterling College campus. The concert will feature performances by a variety of Sterling College music ensembles, including the Saxophone Ensemble, Sterling Lasses, Jazz Band, Highland Singers, Flute Choir, Men’s Quartet, Concert Choir and the Concert Band.

SC Students Go on Christmas Missions Trip

On December 15, 2008, while fellow classmates are setting out for family Christmas celebrations, nine Sterling College students will travel to the Middle East, not only missing Christmas Day with families but also their entire inter-term break. The team will return on January 6, 2009, after spending three weeks on a medical missions trip.

Sterling College Selected as NAIA Champions of Character Institution

Sterling College was selected by the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) as a 2007-2008 NAIA Champions of Character Institution because of its commitment to the use of sports as a character-building tool. In the past year Sterling College football and basketball players read to students in Sterling Grade School; the soccer teams visited with residents in the local nursing home; softball players worked with the mentoring network YouthFriends; and the men’s basketball team held free clinics for children in Sterling, Hutchinson, and Ellsworth.

Sterling College Student Brings Christmas to Local Family

“I thought about reading to schoolchildren for my senior seminar project, or working with athletic camps or serving at the food bank, but my heart just wasn’t in any of those things.” Lazerrick Young, senior psychology major, shared this with his fellow students during Sterling College’s chapel on December 3, 2008. “Instead I had this desire to help a family in Sterling, a family in need, by providing them with food, clothes, and toys.”

Jenny Ellis named Head Volleyball Coach

Sterling College Athletic Director Andy Lambert announced today the hiring of Jenny Ellis as Head Volleyball Coach for the Lady Warriors.
“We are pleased to announce the hiring of Jenny as the head coach of our volleyball program,” Lambert said. “Jenny brings some great strengths to our volleyball program and will be a great person to have in our department. Her and her family are also going to be great additions to our community.”
