The Kansas Athletic Trainers’ Society has recognized four Sterling College students for their academic achievement in the Kansas Athletic Training Education Program.
Named to the 1st Team is Lindsey Ryan of Wichita, Kan. First team honorees must be at least a junior in academic standing and must have achieved a minimum of a 3.8 cumulative grade point average. The student must also have a clinical performance rating of at least a 4/5 by the nominating Program Director.
Ryan is the daughter of Warren and Karen Ryan.
Recent Sterling graduate Rachel Dunham has been accepted to study medicine at the Medical School for International Health. The MSIH is a collaborative medical program of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and Columbia University Medical Center. Dunham was also awarded the Tauber Family scholarship which covers half of her tuition costs based on her academic achievement, demonstrated commitment to international health and medicine and service to underserved communities.
When Friends University head football coach Monty Lewis told the press on media day that they would “…run the ball,” he left out a key piece of information… that they would win with the pass, which is what they did Saturday night in Sterling, KS in front of a capacity crowd at the newly renovated Smisor Stadium, besting the Warriors 33-7.
The 7th annual Santa Fe Trail: Children’s Literature Festival will be held at Sterling College on Thursday, September 18. Jane Kurtz, quoted by School Library Journal as “a superb storyteller,” and Alane Ferguson, nominated for four Edgar Allan Poe “Best Mystery” novels, will be the featured authors.
Why would KCAC football be any different than the rest of the nation in a week where the nation’s top 25 teams took beatings at the hand of their underdog opponents. So be it with Saturday’s match-up where the #13 ranked Bethel College Threshers (2-0) took there first loss at the hands of the Warriors 24-3.
Latecomers to the Santa Fe Children’s Lit Festival were not a disruption; they were unnoticed. The students attending were already too engaged in what authors Alane Ferguson and Jane Kurtz were sharing.
It’s a record-breaking year for Sterling College. A total of 654 students have enrolled at Sterling College this fall making this the largest enrollment in the College’s 121 year history. Sterling has 30 more students than the second highest recorded enrollment the fall of 1968.
Another first for Sterling College happened last week – the first “Department of the Year” award. Sterling College Art & Design chair William Morse accepted the first "Department of the Year" award in a faculty reception last week. The new award is designed to recognize outstanding achievements in recruitment and retention along with improvements in an academic program. The award comes with a $1000 gift for the department.
Sterling College senior Derrick Sullivan has been named this weeks NAIA and the Victory Sports Network Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in Sterling’s 24-3 upset win over #13 Bethel College this past Saturday.
