Business students from Sterling College enjoyed the opportunity to tour the Viega Manufacturing site in McPherson, Kansas, on Friday, Oct. 7, as a part of Manufacturing Day. Viega is a global leader in press pipe fitting technology for industrial, commercial and residential projects. Sterling College students in attendance represented the cost accounting class and the Phi Beta Lambda business club. They were accompanied by Assistant Professor of Business Irene Barkman.

The wind will come sweeping down the plain on Thursday, Oct. 13, as “Oklahoma!” opens at Sterling College. The Rodgers and Hammerstein musical will run Oct. 13-15 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 16, at 2 p.m. in Culbertson Auditorium in Spencer Hall at Sterling College.

Homecoming has begun with games, dorm events and spirit week for the students of Sterling College. Alumni and the community are invited to begin enjoying events on Thursday, Oct. 13, with the opening of the photography exhibit “Through a Forgotten Lens” and the musical “Oklahoma!”
Director of Athletic Training Ryan “Pete” Manely is now Dr. Manely after completing his doctorate of health science from Nova Southeastern University.

Director of Athletic Training Ryan “Pete” Manely is now Dr. Manely after completing his doctorate of health science from Nova Southeastern University. Manely, the Sterling College McCreery Teacher of the Year in 2015, earned this degree while maintaining full-time faculty status, among his other responsibilities for the College.
Founder of Jellyfish Labs Phil Vischer was the speaker for the fall 2016 Ross and Fern Freeman Lecture Series.

Many motivational speakers get hired based on their ability to inspire others toward achieving one’s dreams. Phil Vischer, founder of Jellyfish labs and creator of VeggieTales, offered advice on what to do when your dream comes crashing down. Vischer, the speaker for Sterling College’s Ross and Fern Freeman Lecture Series for Servant Leadership, addressed students, employees and guests Friday, Sept. 30.
Alumni will travel back to Sterling College to experience the Homecoming 2016 festivities, many of which the community is invited to attend.

Thursday night, beginning at 5 p.m., an opening reception for “Through a Forgotten Lens” photography exhibit will take place at the Sterling College Art and Media Center. Later that night, beginning at 8 p.m., Sterling College will present the opening of “Oklahoma!” in Culbertson Auditorium. Never-before-exhibited wartime photography and recently discovered photos of Dwight D. Eisenhower will be on display in “Through a Forgotten Lens” at Sterling College in partnership with The Rescued Film Project. All of the images, including photographs from World War II and possibly the Korean War, were discovered when rolls of undeveloped film were sent to The Rescued Film project in 2014. An opening reception will be held for the public on Oct. 13 from 5-8 p.m. in the gallery of the Sterling College Art and Media Center.
Former Sterling College coach, and recently-named NAIA Hall of Fame inductee, Lonnie Kruse passed away Friday, Sept. 23, 2016.

Former Sterling College coach, and recently-named NAIA Hall of Fame inductee, Lonnie Kruse passed away Friday, Sept. 23, 2016. Kruse was the head coach for the Sterling College Women’s Basketball team from 1981-2014.
“We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Coach Kruse. Lonnie modeled servant leadership in all that he did, whether as a coach, mentor or friend. His legacy will be remembered by the countless lives he touched and his influence will continue to spread for many years to come,” said Scott Rich, president.
Living up to its claim of being “Kansas’ Largest Classroom,” this year’s Kansas State Fair saw the first ever High School Forensics Showcase, presented by Sterling College.

Living up to its claim of being “Kansas’ Largest Classroom,” this year’s Kansas State Fair saw the first ever High School Forensics Showcase, presented by Sterling College. The event was held on Thursday, Sept. 15, in the Hansen Auditorium on the fairgrounds and was hosted and organized by Sterling College Debate and Forensics. Over 250 audience members were in attendance.
Sterling College has announced it has, once again, received recognition by institutions such as The Princeton Review, U.S. News & World Report and Christian Universities Online.
