The beginning of Sterling College’s academic year is August 24, and seven individuals have joined the College’s faculty this fall. Dr. Karen Baehler, Dr. Glenn Butner, Ryan Corwin, Dawn Eliserio, Emily Grace, Dr. Rachel Griffis and Amy Kosek officially started August 10, though many have been in the area for quite some time.
Sterling College graduate Ben Ray ’82 has been elected to join the College’s Board of Trustees.

Pete Manely, director of athletic training at Sterling College, has been named the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Athletic Trainer of the Year, announced by the KCAC on Friday, July 15. Manely will be formally recognized at the Sport Management Conference on Aug. 2 at the University of Saint Mary.

Sterling College Assistant Professor of Art and Design David Stenulson’s painting “School Dance” will be on display at Ann Tower Gallery in Lexington, Kentucky, adding to the list of galleries that have recently exhibited his work. According to Ann Tower Gallery, the annual summer group exhibit, “Evolving Revolving 15,” displays “new work from artists represented by the gallery, including paintings, sculpture, photography, drawings, ceramics and folk art.”
Sterling College announced that the Higher Learning Commission reaffirmed the accreditation of Sterling College.

Sterling College announced that the Higher Learning Commission reaffirmed the accreditation of Sterling College. This action is a result of years of reporting and analysis, which culminated in an accreditation visit from the Higher Learning Commission’s peer review team in April.

Former Sterling College Board of Trustees member Robert Maurice Reed ’39 passed away June 27, 2016. Reed leaves behind a legacy of service to the College and the Sterling community.
“Mr. Reed was an incredible individual whose service was unmatched. He dedicated himself to family, church and community in addition to serving Sterling College. He will be greatly missed,” said Scott Rich, president.
Lonnie Isaac Named Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach

Sterling College announced the launch of the men’s and women’s tennis program, beginning in the 2017-18 fall season. Additionally, Lonnie Isaac has been named head coach of the Sterling College tennis program. Isaac, an accomplished coach, comes to Sterling from Bethel College, where he established a strong and successful tennis program over the past decade.
The series will feature Jellyfish Labs founder and VeggieTales creator Phil Vischer and author and apologist Sean McDowell.

Sterling College has announced The Ross and Fern Freeman Lecture Series for Servant Leadership will feature Jellyfish Labs founder and VeggieTales creator Phil Vischer as well as author and apologist Sean McDowell in the 2016-17 academic year. The lecture series, established in 2014, is free and open to the public.

Partnering with GraceWorks Alaska for another year, student-athletes from Sterling College and Emporia State University spent a week serving families in Anchorage. The 11 athletes traveled with women’s basketball head coach K.C. Bassett, women’s soccer head coach Justin Morris, Leavenworth resident Bill Bassett and Sterling resident Wendy Comley.
The group of Sterling College representatives served meals to kids and families in a park, followed by a Bible lesson and playing games. They also went on morning prayer walks and held an evening supper for park visitors.

Sterling College named 200 students to the spring Dean’s Honor Roll for 2016. Students recognized are those who completed the semester with a 3.5 GPA or better in at least 12 credits of residential work or 10 credits of online work. Eligible students did not receive an F or incomplete in any course.
