Sterling College Homecoming 2016 begins Thursday, Oct. 13

Homecoming has begun with games, dorm events and spirit week for the students of Sterling College. Alumni and the community are invited to begin enjoying events on Thursday, Oct. 13, with the opening of the photography exhibit “Through a Forgotten Lens” and the musical “Oklahoma!”

The opening reception for “Through a Forgotten Lens” is from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday. The show features photography from WWII, other wartime conflicts and of Dwight D. Eisenhower and will be on display until Nov. 11. The gallery of the Art and Media Center will be open from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. on weekdays with the exception of being closed Oct. 20-21. In celebration of Homecoming, the exhibit will also be open on Saturday of Homecoming from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

“Oklahoma!” will run Thursday-Saturday at 8 p.m. and will have a matinee on Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students, children and seniors. Tickets are reserved seating and can be ordered online through Oct. 13 at 5 p.m., purchased during homecoming registration and check-in, or at the Box Office Homecoming Weekend. The Box Office will be open Thursday-Saturday starting at 6:30 p.m. and at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The Annual Pancake and Sausage Feed benefitting the Lady Warrior basketball team will be held at the Sterling United Presbyterian Church on Saturday from 7:30 a.m.-1 p.m. The event will cost $6 in advance and $7 at the door. Tickets for children under the age of 10 will cost $0.25 per year. Order advance tickets through the Athletics Department by calling 620-278-4335 or purchase tickets at the door.

The parade will begin at 9:45 a.m. on Broadway through downtown Sterling. After the parade, the community is invited to attend the Homecoming Hangout and Tailgate on East Cooper Lawn to enjoy games and a pep rally.

The Homecoming Coronation will take place at Smisor Stadium at 1 p.m., prior to the football game. The candidates for queen include Ellie Becker of Steamboat Springs, Colorado; Erika Rojas of Wichita, Kansas; and Jennifer Calderwood of Ulysses, Kansas. Candidates for king include Austin Mettling of Udall, Kansas; Micah Black of McPherson, Kansas; and Obedh Rios of Loveland, Colorado
