The French absurd comedy “The Maids” will open April 20-22, bringing a night of miscommunication and drama to Sterling College April 20-22 at 8 p.m. Written by French playwright Jean Genet and translated by Bernard Frechtman, students will present the play with a unique twist of six actresses instead of the traditional three.
This year’s Love Sterling celebration will end with a concert by Cloverton, a contemporary Christian band out of Manhattan, Kansas.

This year’s Love Sterling celebration will end with a concert by Cloverton, a contemporary Christian band out of Manhattan, Kansas. The concert will take place on East Cooper Lawn at 7 p.m., weather permitting. The Love Sterling planning committee sees this as one more way to give back to the community that supports the College year-round, therefore, the concert is free and open to the public.
Debate and Forensics traveled to the Pi Kappa Delta National Tournament March 22-25 in Boise, Idaho

In their first national appearance for the 2016-17 season, Sterling College Debate and Forensics traveled to the Pi Kappa Delta National Tournament March 22-25 in Boise, Idaho, where two students took home awards in forensics.
Wesley Lowrey of Topeka, Kansas, brought home two awards, excellent ratings in both extemporaneous speaking and broadcast journalism.
Dara Quastad of Inman, Kansas, earned an excellent rating in persuasive speaking, making it the third straight competition in 3 weeks to earn an award in this area.
The eighth annual Love Sterling event will be on Saturday, April 29, and the group is looking for projects to help with.

The eighth annual Love Sterling event will be on Saturday, April 29, and the group is looking for projects to help with. Sterling College will spend the day serving the community of Sterling by helping community members with various projects, including painting, landscaping, deep cleaning and more.

The Sterling College Future Business Leaders of America - Phi Beta Lambda chapter hosted this year’s State Leadership Conference in Sterling, Kansas on March 3-4. The conference saw more than 60 competitors from 11 different colleges across the state and Sterling’s Elizabeth Herrington of Wichita, Kansas, qualified for the National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California.
Sterling students involved in the College’s PBL chapter provided the logistics support for hosting the conference.
The academy is a one-year program intent to strengthen future leaders of KICA academic departments and divisions.

Sterling College was represented in the KICA Aspiring Academic Leadership Academy’s 2017 graduating class by Dr. Spencer Wagley, assistant vice president for academic affairs, and Hans Nickel, assistant professor of sports management. The academy, which graduated its inaugural class on March 17, is a one-year program intent to strengthen future leaders of KICA academic departments and divisions.

Adding to her list of publications, Sterling College Assistant Professor of Language and Literature Dr. Rachel Griffis has been published in two academic journals during this academic year. Her first article, titled “Self-knowledge and character formation: Teaching to students’ weaknesses” was published in the International Journal of Christianity & Education. Her second article, titled “Reformation Leads to Self-Reliance: The Protestantism of Transcendentalism” appeared in Religion’s publication celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation.
The competition is a juried show for high school students.

Sterling College has announced the winners of the second Great Plains Annual Photography Competition, a juried show for high school students. The Best of Show, along with the grand prize of a new camera, will be awarded to Kaden Classen of Liberal High School and Second Best of Show will be awarded to Ali Levens of Syracuse High School. Along with the category winners, Classen and Levens will be recognized at the Great Plains Photography Day on the Sterling College campus on May 5, 2017.

Widely published speaker Dr. Alan Noble will speak at Sterling College’s inaugural Undergraduate Humanities Conference on Saturday, March 25. The assistant professor of English at Oklahoma Baptist University will deliver his address at 1:30 p.m. in Heritage Hall of Cooper Hall. The public is invited to attend his address, as well as the student presentations earlier in the day.

Continuing her streak of success, Sterling College junior Dara Quastad of Inman, Kansas, qualified for the American Forensics Association National Tournament by placing fourth in persuasive speaking at the AFA District 3 Qualifying Tournament on March 4. This is the 11th consecutive year in a row that Sterling College will be represented at the AFA National Tournament.
