Professor Emeritus of British Literature Dr. Craig Arlen Gannon, 75, of McPherson, Kan., passed away on Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014 in Wichita, Kan. Gannon taught British literature and the honors section of freshman composition for many years. He and his wife, Judi, also took students to England for a Literary London course where students visited historical landmarks such as Shakespeare’s birthplace, C.S. Lewis’ writing desk and Jane Austen’s home.

Director of the nationally ranked Sterling College debate and forensics team, Ken Troyer, has co-authored a book with two of his fellow debate directors. The Sterling College assistant professor’s textbook, “Argumentation and Debate: A Strategic Perspective,” is published through Linus Publications and is now being used for fall communication classes at a handful of colleges and universities.

Helen Henry, Mary Ver Steeg and Dennis Dutton were honored at the Kickoff Banquet on Aug. 4 for their years of service to Sterling College.

Helen Henry, assistant to the business office, began serving Sterling College under former president Dr. William M. McCreery in 1945. Through different roles on campus, Henry has served the employees and students of the College for over 45 years.

Directed by Sterling community member Samantha Kennedy, “Beau Jest” will begin the theatre season at Sterling College on Friday, Aug. 29, at 8 p.m. The romantic comedy by James Sherman will take place in Culbertson Auditorium Aug. 29 and 30 with the box office opening at 7 p.m., doors opening at 7:30 p.m., and the play beginning at 8 p.m. Tickets are available on show nights and will cost $10 for adults and $5 for students, children and seniors.
