Kayla Meitler of Hutchinson, Kansas, and Erika Rojas of Wichita, Kansas, have received the honor of being named Sterling College’s Teachers of Promise for the fall semester. Meitler and Rojas will be recognized at the Kansas Teacher of the Year Awards Banquet on Nov. 19 in Wichita.
The Kansas State High Patrol has released the names of two Sterling College students that died in a car accident on Monday morning.

The Kansas State High Patrol has released the names of two Sterling College students that died in a car accident on Monday morning. The deceased students are juniors Esther Jenkerson of Datil, New Mexico, and Xavier Bradford of Lancaster, California. Jenkerson was an athletic training major. Bradford was a writing and editing: creative writing major and on the Sterling College football team.
Randi (Morris) Wise ’13 will return to her Alma Mater, Sterling College, as a faculty member in 2017.

Randi (Morris) Wise ’13 will return to her Alma Mater, Sterling College, as a faculty member in 2017. Beginning in August, Wise will join the Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics as assistant professor of chemistry.
Beginning Nov. 1, Sheila Bird will serve as Sterling College’s associate vice president for advancement.

Beginning Nov. 1, Sheila Bird will serve as Sterling College’s associate vice president for advancement. Bird, who was the director of planned giving, has worked at Sterling College since 2013.
“We’re thrilled to have Sheila in this important role for Sterling College. She has established hundreds of trusting relationships with our alumni and friends, leading to increased giving to the College,” said Scott Carter, vice president for institutional advancement and external relations.
For demonstrated excellence in his career, service to others and loyalty to Sterling College, Ehresman was awarded the 2016 Young Alumni Award.

Just six years after graduating from Sterling College, Matthew Ehresman ’10, has been published in several popular Christian magazines and has authored his first book. For demonstrated excellence in his career, service to others and loyalty to Sterling College, Ehresman was awarded the 2016 Young Alumni Award on Oct. 14 at the Alumni Banquet and Awards Dinner. In addition to his freelance writing, Ehresman is the creative media director at First MB Church in Wichita.
The annual Alumni Award for Sterling College was awarded to Teddi Bryant ’88 of Denver, Colorado.

The annual Alumni Award for Sterling College was awarded to Teddi Bryant ’88 of Denver, Colorado. Bryant is the founder and owner of Hot Mamas Exercise. She was recognized at the Alumni Dinner and Awards Banquet on Friday, Oct. 14, 2016. The Alumni Award is presented annually to alumni who graduated more than 15 years ago and who has demonstrated sustained excellence in career, service to others and loyalty to Sterling College.
Sterling resident Dr. Thomas Simpson was honored with the highest alumni award from Sterling College, the Distinguished Service Award.

Sterling resident Dr. Thomas Simpson was honored with the highest alumni award from Sterling College, the Distinguished Service Award, for his lifetime of service to the community and the College. The award recognizes an alumna or alumnus who exemplifies the purposes for which Sterling College exists – exceptional contributions to society, distinguished professional accomplishment, and outstanding leadership and character.

Six Sterling College students attended the National Student Leadership Forum in Washington D.C. on Oct. 21-23. Amanda Del Toro, Jordin Greer, Drake Koops, Kaitlynn Little, Estephany Moncada and Jonathan Yelton took part in the three-day annual event that featured university leaders from across the country.

Sterling College will host the current Poet Laureate of Kansas, Eric McHenry, on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016. McHenry will perform a reading of his poetry at 7 p.m. in Cornerstone in the Sterling College Student Union.
"Eric McHenry is an exceptional talent and warm individual, whose passion for poetry is made quickly evident in his talks. He is rightfully our state’s poet laureate—a master of poetic form, who speaks with infectious humor, wit and sincerity about life in the Midwest,” said Aaron Brown, assistant professor of writing and editing.

Faculty honored with this award are known for their commitment to the students through not only their teaching, but also their personal attention and the stressed importance of values and character. One faculty member was recognized from each of the 19 independent colleges within Kansas on Oct. 13.
