Hosting one of the top 100 apologists in the nation at The Ross and Fern Freeman Lecture Series for Servant Leadership, Sterling College has invited the public to hear Dr. Sean McDowell speak on April 7 at 10 a.m. in Culbertson Auditorium in Spencer Hall. McDowell, an assistant professor in the Christian Apologetics program at Biola University, will bring a message “True for You But Not True for Me” to campus. The event is free and open to the public.
The Highland Singers will tour March 10-19, making their first stop in Miltonvale, Kansas, for a Friday evening concert.

The Sterling College Highland Singers will tour March 10-19, making their first stop in Miltonvale, Kansas, for a Friday evening concert. The 20-voice mixed choir will sing a variety of selections including classical sacred, spirituals, hymns, contemporary choral anthems, and arrangements of current worship songs. The public is invited to attend the events along the tour route:

The story of Louisa May Alcott’s “Little Women” with song and dance will take the stage of Culbertson Auditorium March 2-4 at 8 p.m. Directed by Mark Clark, assistant professor of music, the musical is also a showcase for senior Abigail Pickering, who plays the lead role of Jo March.
Sterling College students Wesley Lowrey and Dara Quastad brought home three awards from the statewide tournament.

Traveling to the Kansas IE Championship on Feb. 18, 2017, Sterling College students Wesley Lowrey and Dara Quastad brought home three awards from the statewide tournament. The students competed against schools from across Kansas, including tough competition from host Bethel College, Ottawa University, Kansas State University, Independence Community College, Kansas Wesleyan University and Kansas University.
The Criminal Justice program at Sterling College will host a career fair on Friday, March 31, from 1-7 p.m. on the second floor of Wilson Hall.

Cassidy Puderbaugh of Coldwater, Kansas, and Holly (Harshberger) Westrup of Meade, Kansas, represented Sterling College as the spring Teachers of Promise at the Kansas Exemplary Educators Network Conference in Topeka on Feb. 10, 2017. The students were recognized at the annual awards banquet.
Junior Dara Quastad finished second in persuasive speaking at the Kansas Wesleyan University Border Wars tournament on February 4.

Junior Dara Quastad of Inman, Kansas, finished second in persuasive speaking at the Kansas Wesleyan University Border Wars tournament on February 4. Assistant Professor of Communications Ken Troyer called the finish “remarkable” since Quastad had only participated in three tournaments in her college career. Quastad began practicing for forensics in the fall, having learned of the competition through her public speaking class at Sterling College. Quastad did not participate in forensics or debate in high school.

Sterling College has announced the addition of Susie (Rathbun) Carney ’88 as the alumni director beginning July 1, 2017.

The Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival for Region 5 was a time of celebration for the Sterling College theatre program, yielding seven awards among the professors and students. Assistant Professors of Theatre Arts Aaron and Samantha Kennedy, senior Bryce Bassett and junior Dani Goldberg were all recognized for their work.
