Wednesday, October 26, 2016

The annual Alumni Award for Sterling College was awarded to Teddi Bryant ’88 of Denver, Colorado. Bryant is the founder and owner of Hot Mamas Exercise. She was recognized at the Alumni Dinner and Awards Banquet on Friday, Oct. 14, 2016. The Alumni Award is presented annually to alumni who graduated more than 15 years ago and who has demonstrated sustained excellence in career, service to others and loyalty to Sterling College.

“What I have observed about Teddi, both as a student here at Sterling and throughout her adult life, is that she naturally relates to people. Her ability to interact with a diverse group with widely varied interests, backgrounds and beliefs makes her an example to us all. Her willingness to help others has, without a doubt, helped her succeed in business,” said Scott Carter, vice president for institutional advancement and external relations.

Bryant moved to Washington D.C. after graduation to work as a legislative correspondent in the office of U. S. Senator Bill Armstrong. She moved on to paralegal work for multiple law firms in Washington D.C. and then New York City. She began working part-time at Equinox gym which fueled her passion for health and fitness.

In 2002, she moved home to Denver, Colorado, and began building a business around the schedule of her newborn daughter. Starting with a “stroller class” in the park for moms, her business grew into what is now Hot Mama’s Exercise, a business that has been featured in magazines like “Shape” and “Vogue,” and “Travel & Leisure.” In addition to personal training and the boutique fitness studio, Hot Mama’s also hosts destination retreats for moms at tropical beach locations.

Bryant is married to Steve Schumer and has two children: Alessandro, a freshman at Sterling College, and Teadora, 14. She attends Montview Presbyterian Church where she is a longtime member of the choir. Bryant’s father, Ted Bryant, served on College’s Board of Trustees from 1986-96. Her grandfather, George Woodbury, was also a member of Sterling College’s Board of Trustees.
