Senior Darsha Bechard of Belleville, Kansas, joined her future co-workers at the Kansas Exemplary Educators Network State Education Conference on February 19-20 in Topeka to learn from top educators across the country. Named a spring Teacher of Promise by the Sterling College Teacher Education Program, Bechard met the criteria of integrity, dependability, effective communication, appropriate attitude and leadership along with excellent academic achievement.
Sterling College will present William Shakespeare’s “Taming of the Shrew” March 5-7 at 8 p.m. in Culbertson Auditorium.

Tickets will be available show nights at the Sterling College box office in Spencer Hall at 7 p.m., and the doors will open at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for students, children and seniors.
The Hutchinson Symphony Orchestra will be joined by the choirs from Hutchinson Community College and Sterling College for their final performance of the 2014-15 season, “Carmina Burana” by Carl Orff. The concert featuring selections from the famous 1937 composition will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 5, at the Fox Theatre in Hutchinson, Kansas. Tickets can be purchased from the Fox Theatre Box Office for $22 for adults and $10 for children.
The Freeman Lecture Series will feature speaker Danny Wuerffel.

The Freeman Lecture Series will feature speaker Danny Wuerffel on Friday, March 6, 2015, at 10 a.m. at Sterling College. The former Heisman Trophy winner will address students, employees and guests of the College in Culbertson Auditorium in Spencer Hall. The Freeman Lecture Series seeks to educate individuals on the various values and applications of leadership by highlighting the servant leadership attributes present in others.
Students on Sterling College Ministry Teams have spent the year supporting local organizations who care for victims of human trafficking.

Students on Sterling College Ministry Teams have spent the year supporting local organizations who care for victims of human trafficking. This month, Ministry Teams asked their classmates to provide items for Fresh Start Bags, a ministry of Wichita-based organization ICT S.O.S. The bags are filled with personal hygiene items, new clothing, a comfort item and a fast food gift card.

Sterling College students Fayola Oyatayo of Princeton, Texas, and Tennissa Williams of Wichita, Kansas, were among an elite group of college students that traveled to the 63rd National Prayer Breakfast earlier this month. Roughly two percent of the 3,600 National Prayer Breakfast attendees were invited to attend the event that took place in Washington, D.C., and Annapolis, Maryland, on Feb. 5-8, 2015.
With six students qualified for the NFA National Debate tournament in April, it should be no surprise that the Sterling College Debate team brought home multiple awards from the Gorlok Gala at Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri.
The Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center in Hutchinson, Kansas, teamed up with students in the Sterling College class Methods of Teaching Elementary Science to create a space-themed unit that Kansas teachers can use in their classroom. Using the artifacts found in the Cosmosphere, the Sterling College students created a unit for fifth-grade classes on The Race to Space that incorporates Kansas standards for multiple subjects.
Sterling College is hosting its first annual Peacemakers Convocation with guest speaker Marvin Daniels, delivering his speech, “Peace Is Not For Punks: A Scriptural View of Peace from the Streets of Scripture.”

Daniels is the executive director of The Hope Center in Kansas City, Missouri, an organization bringing change to the community through the development of programs and community support. The Peacemakers Convocation takes place on Friday, Feb. 13, at 10 a.m. in Culbertson Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.
