Sterling College Forensics team has had a team member qualify for the National Interstate Oratory Competition.

For the 5th consecutive year and 6th time in school history, Sterling College Forensics team has had a team member qualify for the National Interstate Oratory Competition. Paige Sherraden, a junior from Plainville, Kan., qualified by virtue of her performance throughout the season.
Sherraden is one of two students from the state of Kansas that is afforded the opportunity to compete at the annual competition. With such an elite field, all bidding to be considered the most persuasive, the competition is fierce.
The Sterling College Debate and Forensics Teams continues to compete in a virtual environment.

The Sterling College Debate and Forensics Teams continues to compete in a virtual environment but is eagerly looking toward a return to in person arguing. On Jan. 28-30, Sterling competed against 49 schools and more than 500 individuals in the Gorlok Gala Debate Tournament, hosted virtually by Webster University in St. Louis, Mo.
The Sterling College Art Gallery is hosting the art exhibit “Garden of Earthly Delights.”

The Sterling College Art Gallery is hosting the art exhibit “Garden of Earthly Delights” for the month of February. Native Kansas artist Kathy Schroeder is the artist behind the exhibit. She has been teaching art classes at Sterling College since 2018.

Sterling College held the privilege of hosting DeLano J. Sheffield, nonprofit leader based in Kansas City, for the College's annual Peacemakers Convocation on Feb. 4. Sheffield brought a message of encouragement and exhortation to campus with a reminder to have “gracious eyes” as we interact with the world around us.

The most famous character in all of C. S. Lewis’ “Narnia” books is Aslan the lion. He is at the center of all the stories including the first book of the series The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, an adaptation of which will take the stage for Sterling College Theatre this weekend on Friday and Saturday, February 4 and 5 at 7:30 p.m. and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 6.

Sterling College has announced its seventh president, Dr. Robert A. Veitch, has passed away. Dr. Veitch served as president at Sterling from 1983 to 1988. He passed away on Dec., 16, 2021, at UPMC Jameson Hospital in New Castle, Pa.
“We are saddened to hear of Dr. Veitch’s passing. Dr. Veitch lived a life of ministry and he will be remembered as a president who modeled servant leadership in his time at Sterling College,” said Dr. Scott Rich, president.
Sterling’s tenth president, Dr. Bruce Douglas, has passed away.

Sterling’s tenth president, Dr. Bruce Douglas, has passed away. Dr. Douglas served as president at Sterling from 2005 to 2008. He passed away on Jan. 12.
“We are saddened to hear of Dr. Douglas’ passing. He was accomplished in so many areas of business, leadership and his work in non-profits. We are forever grateful that he blessed Sterling College by serving as President. His lasting legacy here at Sterling will be felt for generations,” said Dr. Scott Rich, president.

The Sterling College Criminal Justice program will host Jeff Hooper, chief of police for the City of Hutchinson, for its keynote lecture on Thursday, November 11, 2021. The College will host Hooper at 7 p.m. in Heritage Hall in Cooper Hall. The public is invited to attend this free event.
“Chief Hooper has an engaging speaking style that really connects with students. Chief Hooper has an infectious passion for criminal justice and we are thrilled he will be joining us for our keynote address this fall,” said Dr. Mark Tremaine, associate professor of criminal justice.

The 2021-22 Sterling College Debate & Forensics team faced the challenge of having graduated considerably talented and experienced team members, yet the current team, led by senior Paige Sherraden of Plainville, Kan., has stepped forward and continued the legacy of success. The team competed in the 2nd annual T-Town Tournament hosted by Northeastern State University & Tulsa Community College on October 22-23.
