Tomas Ortiz of Lyons, Kansas, and Aaron Pinkerton of Dodge City, Kansas, represented Sterling College as the spring Teachers of Promise at the KEEN Conference in Topeka on Feb. 15-16, 2018. The students were recognized at the annual awards banquet.
It’s regarded as one of the most famous love story ever told, yet it has never been staged in Sterling, Kansas.

It’s regarded as one of the most famous love story ever told, yet it has never been staged in Sterling, Kansas. Not at the Sterling High School, Sterling College or the Sterling Community Theatre. Until now. Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” is being staged by Sterling College Theatre, featuring a mixture of college students, high school students, and community members from age 16 to 64.
Sterling College hosted the Kansas State Individual Events Tournament with colleges and universities from across the state.

Sterling College hosted the Kansas State Individual Events Tournament Feb. 10, with colleges and universities from across the state competing for championship titles. Four Sterling College students walked away with awards, the highest from freshman Matt Scharff of Tonganoxie, Kansas, being named state champion in dramatic interpretation.

Sterling College will unveil the latest campus master plan as part of a reception for the SterlingNOW Campaign on March 8, 2018, at Studio 96.The come-and-go reception will be held from 5-7 p.m., with a short program starting at 6 p.m. Sterling College Trivia will be held at 5:45 p.m., with prizes for the winners. Complimentary hors d’oeuvres will be served. The public is invited to attend the event, with RSVPs encouraged but not required. Sterling College Online Learning has been named to the Top 50 Most Affordable Bachelor’s in Elementary Education or Early Childhood by Top Education Degrees. The ranking considered tuition, student to faculty ratio, and national recognition.
Sterling College ranked favorably among the likes of other institutions named to the list including Asbury University, LeTourneau University, University of Nebraska Lincoln.

Sterling College will host the presentation “The Murder of Emmett Till,” given by Dr. Dave Tell, the co-creator of the Emmett Till Memorial Project. Till was a 14-year-old black boy who was murdered for whistling at a white woman while visiting his family in Mississippi in 1955. The program will take place Monday, Feb. 26, 2018, at 7 p.m. in Heritage Hall in Cooper Hall on the campus of Sterling College, and the community is invited to attend the free event. The program is made possible by the Kansas Humanities Council with additional funding provided by the Lewis H.

Two novice speakers from Sterling College brought home awards from the Border Wars Swing Forensics Tournament at Kansas Wesleyan University Feb. 2-4, 2018. Senior Stephen Jenkins of Topeka, Kansas, finished day one of the tournament by placing second in persuasive speaking. Day two of the tournament brought a third place finish in persuasive speaking for Jenkins. He was named top novice speaker in both events.
Dr. Kneeland Brown will speak at the Sterling College Peacemakers Convocation.

Dr. Kneeland Brown, president of Trinity Academy in Wichita, will speak at the Sterling College Peacemakers Convocation on Friday, Feb. 9, at 10 a.m. As part of the College’s Spiritual Emphasis Week, Brown will present his speech, “Let Justice Roll Down,” in Culbertson Auditorium in Spencer Hall on the Sterling College campus. The event is free and open to the public.
Gabby Martinez qualified for the American Forensic Association National Individual Events Tournament.

Gabby Martinez of Hutchinson, Kansas, qualified for the American Forensic Association National Individual Events Tournament this past weekend at the Nebraska in Kansas Swing. Hosted by Kansas State University, the tournament included 11 colleges and universities competing in 11 individual events. Martinez placed second in informative speaking, which was her final step toward qualifying for the national tournament.
Dara Quastad of Inman, Kansas, placed fourth in persuasive speaking on day one of the tournament.
Charlie Brown, Lucy, Sally, Linus, Snoopy and Schroeder entertain audience members of all ages on Feb. 1-4.

Schultz’s comic strip “Peanuts” will find their way to Culbertson Auditorium Feb. 1-4 as Charlie Brown, Lucy, Sally, Linus, Snoopy and Schroeder entertain audience members of all ages. “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” will show at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 1-3, and at 2 p.m. on Feb. 4. The public is invited to attend as Assistant Professor of Music Mark Clark directs the cast in this family-friendly musical.
