The Sterling College Department of Theology and Ministry announced its new conference, “Semper Reformanda: Always Being Reformed,” to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation taking place on Tuesday, Oct. 10. The conference begins at 6 p.m. in Heritage Hall in Cooper Hall with keynote speaker Dr. Hank Lederle, former faculty member at Sterling College. The public is invited to attend this free event.
The musical, directed by Assistant Professor of Music Mark Clark, will begin at 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, with a matinee at 2 p.m. on Sunday

The story of a princess and her uncomfortable night’s sleep will have audience members laughing as they enjoy the musical comedy “Once Upon a Mattress” at Sterling College Oct. 5-8, 2017. With Prince Dauntless wanting to marry a princess, but his queen mother making things difficult by constructing unreasonable tests for the princesses, it will take an unusual princess to fit the task. Luckily, Princess Winnifred is an unusual princess. The musical, directed by Assistant Professor of Music Mark Clark, will begin at 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, with a matinee at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Breaking new ground once again for the Sterling College Debate Team, seniors Gage Brookman and Bryce Harner were selected to participate in a national round robin debate tournament at Western Kentucky University. The Alexis Elliott Memorial Round Robin for Lincoln Douglas Debate invited 12 students and will be held on Sept. 22-24.

Sterling College welcomed two new professors to the theatre program this year, both highly awarded for their work in theatre and eager to work with students and community members alike in their 2017-18 theatre season. Sasha Hildebrand, alumna of Sterling College, is returning as artistic director and assistant professor of theatre arts. Stephen English is the new technical director and associate professor of theatre.

Advancing cancer treatments have extended hope to those diagnosed within the past several years, and Sterling College Assistant Professor of Chemistry Randi Wise is working to find a way to treat patients with a specific subtype of breast cancer. Co-authored by Dr. Anna Zolkiewska of Kansas State University, their research will be published in the medical journal Breast Cancer Research and Treatment later this fall and is currently available as an Online First article.

The National Park System turned 100 in the summer of 2016, sparking a series of celebrations across the United States. Not to be left out, a group of designers organized by Type Hike created 59 typographical posters for the 59 national parks that will be on display at Sterling College beginning Aug. 29, 2017. The gallery of the Art and Media Center will house all of the posters through Sept. 22 for the public to view from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on weekdays. Groups can request to view the show after 5 p.m.
