The 41st Annual Honors Convocation was held in Culbertson Auditorium on Friday, April 20. Students were recognized for scholarships and awards they received. Each scholarship and award has various criteria chosen by the donor at the establishment of the award or scholarship. Service Awards were given to sophomore Mikaela Wells of Haven, Kansas, and Joan Ehresman, accompanist for Sterling College.

Sterling College announced the launch of the men’s and women’s swimming program, beginning the 2019-20 fall season. Additionally, Gary Kempf has been named head coach of the Sterling College swimming program. Kempf currently serves as Sterling’s athletic director and will continue in that role through December 2018. Kempf is a decorated swimming coach with over 30 years of college coaching experience.
The Sterling College Criminal Justice program will host Caleb Watney for its keynote lecture on Friday, April 27, 2018.

The Sterling College Criminal Justice program will host Caleb Watney, technology policy associate at the R Street Institute, for its keynote lecture on Friday, April 27, 2018. The College will host Watney at 7 p.m. in Heritage Hall in Cooper Hall with a public question-and-answer forum immediately afterward. The public is invited to attend this free event.

Four Sterling College seniors will present their final artwork in “Homeland – A Senior Art Exhibit,” opening Thursday, April 26. Each artist will be exhibiting newly created bodies of work centered around ideas related to their “homeland.” The public is invited to the reception for Jose G. Chávez, Livvy Dunning, Astrid Johanny Moncada and Brandon Peterson in the gallery of the Art and Media Center from 5-7 p.m. “Homeland” will be on display Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. April 26-May 11.

Eight doors and one window slamming, flying sardines, misplaced telephones, sabotage, back-stabbing and general mayhem galore all come together in only one thing: the now-classic stage comedy - “Noises Off.” A play-within-a-play “Noises Off” will open Thursday, April 19, bringing four performances of comedy to Sterling College. Audiences will see the inner workings of a theater production in this backstage farce by Michael Frayn, as a traveling company debuts a British farce. “Noises Off” will begin at 7:30 p.m. April 19-21 and at 2 p.m.
The Sunderland Foundation has awarded $600,000 to Sterling College for the SterlingNOW Capital Campaign.

The Sunderland Foundation has awarded $600,000 to Sterling College for the SterlingNOW Capital Campaign. The grant will support the campaign’s $22 million goal to upgrade science and academic facilities and to expand the Gleason Physical Education Center.

Matt Jaeger ’00, co-founder and president of Emergent Green Energy, will be the speaker for the 2018 Sterling College Commencement ceremony. The ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 12, at 9:45 a.m. on East Cooper Lawn on the Sterling College campus. The event is open to the public.

The list of projects for Love Sterling is growing, and teams of volunteers are getting ready for the annual day of service. In order to complete all of the projects, Sterling College students are looking for supplies to borrow on the day of the event, April 28.
The students are looking for hand saws, wheelbarrows, a weed eater, a chainsaw, ladders, paint scrapers, paint brushes and a tiller.
Shelby Stowe was selected for a research experience at Valparaiso University.

Sterling College junior Shelby Stowe of Bentonville, Arkansas, was one of 12 math majors from across the United States selected for a research experience for undergraduates at Valparaiso University. Under the guidance of Dr. Alex Capaldi, professor at Valparaiso University, Stowe and two other students worked to create a mathematical tool that would analyze the effects of a White Nose Syndrome, a fungal disease affecting the population of bats in North America.
