With four years of hard work and service behind them, Sterling College seniors Anna Adamyk of McPherson, Kansas, and Adam Wilgers of Elbing, Kansas, were named the 2018 Outstanding Female and Male Graduates in conjunction with the Fran Jabara Leadership Award.
The awards are given to two students who exemplify outstanding academic achievement, leadership skills and involvement, and who portray an enthusiastically Christian faith. They must have a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher and are voted upon by faculty and staff.
Dr. Daniel Julich was given The William M. McCreery Teaching Award.

Dr. Daniel Julich, assistant professor of history and government at Sterling College, was given The William M. McCreery Teaching Award as part of the College’s Commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 12, 2018. The award recognizes and encourages excellence in teaching and is presented to a faculty member whose efforts have provided noteworthy and innovative instruction to Sterling College students during the academic year. The award was established in honor of Sterling College’s fourth president, William M.

Friends and family gathered on East Cooper Lawn at Sterling College on Saturday morning, May 12, 2018, to celebrate the achievements of 125 graduates. The City of McPherson Pipe Band led the procession, and speaker and alumnus, Matt Jaeger ’00, president and co-founder of Emergent Green Energy, gave a speech titled “A Job or a Calling?” The presentation of degrees followed with students walking the stage to shake hands with President Scott Rich, completing their time at Sterling.

Cooper Lawn turned green and the trees began to bud just in time for the Class of 2018 as they celebrate their time at Sterling College May 11-12. Seniors will welcome friends and family to campus Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. for Baccalaureate, as they set aside time for a final worship service in Culbertson Auditorium in Spencer Hall. The special spiritual send-off will be followed by a short reception where refreshments will be served.

Former Sterling College Board of Trustee member Dr. Robert R. Brownlee ’47 of Loveland, Colorado, passed away on May 2, 2018.
“We are saddened to hear of Dr. Brownlee’s passing. He demonstrated how to be exceptional in his work and distinguished in the way he conducted himself. We celebrate his life well lived and we are grateful for the example he gave us all,” said Scott Rich, president.

To close out the 2017-18 school year, the Sterling College choirs will perform “I Will Lift My Voice” on Sunday, May 6, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Sterling United Presbyterian Church. The Highland Singers, Sterling Lasses, small ensembles, and full 42-voice choir will perform a selection of psalms, hymns and spirituals, consisting of 20 pieces from various genres. The public is invited to attend this free performance.
The annual Night of One-Acts at Sterling College will be presented this Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

The annual Night of One-Acts at Sterling College will be presented on Saturday, May 5, in Culbertson Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. New and familiar faces will perform four short plays directed by members of the play directing class, as well as Jennie Czuba ’10, Sterling’s admissions and arts event coordinator, and Sasha Hildebrand ’03, assistant professor of theatre arts. The events is free and open to the public.

On Saturday, April 28, over 300 Sterling College students, faculty, staff and community members joined together to serve the town of Sterling, Kansas, by participating in the event Love Sterling, a city-wide service day. The coordinator of Love Sterling, Erica Foss, assistant coordinator, Emily Fuller, and several students had been planning the event since January.
Five Sterling College students were inducted into the Alpha Chi.

Five Sterling College students were inducted into the Alpha Chi on Tuesday, April 24, 2018. The collegiate chapter of National Honor Society includes juniors and seniors who are in the top 10 percent of their class. The inductees were Olivia Dunning of Yucca Valley, California; Jordin Greer of Hoisington, Kansas; Shelby Stowe of Bentonville, Arkansas; and Zachary Williams of St. Louis, Missouri. Continuing an impressive run, Sterling College Debate’s Gage Brookman became the top speaker in the nation by winning the 2018 National Forensic Association Top Speaker distinction in Lincoln-Douglas Debate. Brookman, of Hutchinson, also collected a top-10 finish in the octafinal round of competition, finishing in ninth place overall.
