Amanda Xydis, senior at Sterling College, will perform her senior recital at the Sterling United Presbyterian Church on Friday, May 10. The vocal recital will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will last approximately 50 minutes. The public is invited to attend this free event.
Jeff Darnauer will join the faculty for the fall 2013 semester as a half-time instructor of theology and ministry. His primary responsibility will be youth ministry courses. Darnauer earned a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Formation and Ministry, and in Biblical/Theological Studies from Wheaton College and a Master of Divinity from Nazarene Theological Seminary.
A four run first inning sparked Sterling to a 6-0 win over Tabor College at Hobart-Detter Field in Hutchinson, Kan. on Saturday afternoon. The win eliminated Tabor from the KCAC Championship Baseball Tournament and gave Sterling its second straight KCAC Tournament Championship.
Athletic Director Gary Kempf named Brandon Ponchak the next Head Coach of the Sterling College Men's Soccer Program on Monday. Ponchak, an Ohio native, inherits a team that finished tied for fifth with a 4-4-1 record in the KCAC.
The Sterling Community Band will perform their spring concert on Tuesday, May 7, at 7:30 p.m. in Upper Wilson on the Sterling College campus. The band includes nine student musicians from Sterling College and several community members.
The Sterling College Chorale, Highland Singers and Sterling Lasses will present their final performance of the academic year in the Masterworks Concert on Sunday, May 5, at 3 p.m. at the Sterling United Methodist Church. The entirely acapella concert will be approximately 45 minutes long and is free and open to the public.
On Saturday, April 27, approximately 240 Sterling College students, faculty, staff and community members of all ages joined together to serve the town of Sterling, Kan., by participating in the fourth annual Love Sterling event, a town-wide day of service. Overall, Love Sterling was a community effort with an estimated 1,500 man hours being given over the course of the day.
Dr. Richard Goertzen, senior pastor at Grace Bible Church in Hutchinson, Kan., will be the speaker for the 2013 Sterling College Commencement ceremony. The ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 18, at 9:45 a.m. on Cooper Lawn on the Sterling College campus. The event is open to the public.
The Sterling College Board of Trustees announces that Mr. Scott Rich has accepted the presidency of Sterling College. Rich will become Sterling’s twelfth president effective May 1, 2013.
“The Board and I are very excited that Scott has agreed to serve the college in this capacity. His strength of character, vast understanding of finance and operations, and a strong desire for excellence make him the ideal president for Sterling College, ”Chairman of the Board Heather McCreery said.
