With a 6-1 win over McPherson College on Friday night, Sterling College earned its second straight 40 win baseball season under the tutelage of Head Coach Adrian Dinkel. The Warriors jumped up on McPherson 2-0 in the first inning and never looked back on the way to maintain their hold of the top spot in the KCAC standings. The Warriors picked up their 40th win this year on Apr.
Seven Sterling College students participated alongside Dr. Jonathan Conard, assistant professor of biology, in this year’s BioBlitz, an annual event held at Quivira National Wildlife Refuge, on April 19-20.
Mandy Lee, senior at Sterling College, will perform her senior recital in Upper Wilson on the Sterling College campus on Thursday, April 25. The vocal recital will begin at 6:30 p.m. and last approximately 50 minutes. The public is invited to attend this free event.
Volunteers will paint, rake, sweep and clean around town this Saturday, April 27, for the fourth annual Love Sterling event. In 2012, the event included approximately 250 volunteers, who dedicated 1,100 hours of service to complete 25 projects.
Love Sterling began in 2010 as a way for the students, faculty and staff of Sterling College to give back to the community.
Senior Cedrique Smith became a Kansas Relays Champion this past Saturday with a victory in the college/university/open division of the 110m hurdles. The Men's 110m Hurdle field consisted of 31 of some of the top NCAA D1 and D2, NAIA and Unattached athletes from across the country.
Elementary education majors and professors recently traveled to West Elementary school in Valley Center USD 262 to learn about Multi-Tier Systems of Supports. This state-wide systematic intervention model enables schools to coordinate and provide intervention instruction to ensure students meet the academic proficiency requirements in reading and math.
Dr. Jennifer Dyson ’02 of Romeoville, Ill., will return to her alma mater as assistant professor of psychology for the fall 2013 semester. Dyson graduated from Sterling College with a B.A. in Behavioral Science. She received her M.S. in Clinical Psychology from Emporia State University, and her M.A. in General Theology and Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from Wheaton College.
Four Sterling College art and design seniors will display their final body of work at the senior art exhibition which opens with a reception on Thursday, April 25, from 5-7 p.m. The exhibit titled “Unearthed” will be on display in the Art and Media Center gallery located at the corner of 8th and Washington through May 15.
The book of Proverbs takes the stage in a production titled “Proverbs: A Compass for Daily Living,” on Wednesday, April 17, in Cornerstone in the Sterling College Student Union, at 7 p.m. The theatrical production, written by Dr. Henry Lederle, professor of theology and ministry, is produced by the students enrolled in the Wisdom Literature class and directed by junior Phil Taylor of Norco, Calif.
Senior Ryan Ehresman of Wichita, Kan., will direct “Leaving Iowa” on Friday and Saturday, April 12-13 at 8 p.m. in Culbertson Auditorium. The show, written by Tim Clue and Spike Manton, is a family-friendly comedy. Admission is $5 and the box office will be open Monday-Friday from 1-5 p.m.
