The Sterling College Debate and Forensics team has been successful this semester, already qualifying three students for national tournaments in the spring along with several personal awards.
Amanda Del Toro of Manhattan, Kansas, qualified for the National Forensic Association Lincoln Douglas debate national tournament during her first tournament of the season at Southwest Baptist University. Overall, she placed fifth.

The Sterling College Debate Team brought home nine nutcracker trophies to mark their sweepstakes win at Cameron University’s Christmas Classic Swing, where Gage Brookman of Hutchinson, Kansas, was named tournament champion and third best speaker in Lincoln-Douglas debate as well as finishing in ninth place with his partner Bryce Harner in varsity parliamentary debate. Harner of Hutchinson, Kansas, also placed fifth in Lincoln-Douglas debate, and Elijah Keller and Wesley Lowrey finished fifth in novice parliamentary debate to help secure the tournament win.
Sterling College theatre students will attend the Region 5 Festival in January.

Sterling College theatre students will attend the Region 5 Festival in January to compete for the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarships offered through the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival. Awarded to students who wish to pursue further education in theatre, the Irene Ryan scholarships join with The Festival in recognizing college and university students from across America for excellence in their craft through annual awards. The final winners will be announced April 22.
Six Sterling College students were selected to take part in the Kansas Society of Certified Public Accountants’ Member Value Day and Student-CPA Connect event.

Six Sterling College students were selected to take part in the Kansas Society of Certified Public Accountants’ Member Value Day and Student-CPA Connect event. These students attended the event, held in Wichita, to gain real world perspectives and the opportunity to connect with CPA professionals in the field.

“Good News, Great Joy” will spread Christmas cheer on Saturday, Dec. 10, as the Sterling College choirs entertain the crowd with classic Christmas carols and a few new numbers in the performance. The public is invited to attend the event held at 6 p.m. at the Sterling United Presbyterian Church.
Any student in grades 9-12 may submit pieces to the photography competition.

Sterling College has announced that entries are open for the second Great Plains Annual Photography Competition, a juried show for high school students. Any student in grades 9-12 may submit pieces to the photography competition, which offers scholarships and prizes for the winning photographs, including a new DSLR camera to the winner. The deadline for submissions is Feb. 1.
The Sterling College instrumental and wind ensembles will present “Home for Christmas” on Dec. 4 at 2:30 p.m. in Culbertson Auditorium.

The Sterling College instrumental and wind ensembles will present “Home for Christmas” on Dec. 4 at 2:30 p.m. in Culbertson Auditorium. The concert will feature the College’s instrumental ensemble and wind ensemble. Listeners will enjoy traditional Christmas favorites from the U.S. and around the globe through music, media and audience participation. This event is free and open to the public.

Three senior art students at Sterling College are finishing the details of their senior show, “Rebellion,” which will open with a reception Dec. 1 from 5-7 p.m. Brittney Lewis, Sean Winn and Chase Wolff will display their work, which includes painting, photography and mixed media pieces, in the Sterling College Art and Media Center gallery until Dec. 14.
Despite no formal training with the College’s debate and forensics team, the students drew upon their experience in the classroom.

Taking one class in argumentation and debate does not usually make you an expert in the subject, but four students at Sterling College decided to test their skills at the Tulsa Invitational debate tournament. Despite no formal training with the College’s debate and forensics team, the students drew upon their experience in the classroom. And apparently having a professor who wrote a book about argumentation and debate was advantageous since two students walked away with awards. Anna Adamyk of McPherson, Kansas, and Micah Black of McPherson, Kansas, finished ninth and fifth respectively.

Former Sterling College Board of Trustee member Robert “Bob” McCreery ’63 of Estes Park, Colorado, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016.
“We are saddened to hear of Bob’s passing. He lived out the very heart of servant leadership within his family, community and at Sterling College. The McCreery family is very near and dear to our hearts, and our prayers go out to their family,” said Scott Rich, president.
