The students in State and Local Government class at Sterling College traveled to Topeka on March 10, 2015, to spend a day observing and interacting with state government officials. The students toured the capitol building, attended the afternoon session of the Kansas Senate, talked to Senator Rick Wilborn of District 35, and ate lunch with a lobbyist from the League of Kansas Municipalities. The Sterling College Future Business Leaders of America - Phi Beta Lambda chapter spent February 13 competing at the State Leadership Conference in Salina, Kansas, hosted by Fort Hays State University. Pitted against other college students from across Kansas in their knowledge of business practices and skills, the Sterling College students brought home 13 awards.
The Kansas Athletic Trainers’ Society recognized 10 Sterling College students.

The 2014 calendar year set a new record for the Sterling College Athletic Training Program. Leading the entire state with seven students awarded First Team All-Academic Honors, the Kansas Athletic Trainers’ Society recognized 10 Sterling College students for their outstanding academic achievement. Based on 2014 grade point averages and academic standing, KATS recognized 96 students from across the state of Kansas who attend athletic training programs accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education.

On Wednesday, March 11, 2015, youth groups from Sterling, Lyons and Little River met in Culbertson Auditorium in Spencer Hall on the campus of Sterling College for One Accord, a night of worship, prayer and communion. Danny Wuerffel, Heisman Trophy winner and executive director of Desire Street Ministries, has received awards, played in the National Football League, written a book and has a long list of additional accomplishments. Yet when he came to speak at the Sterling College Freeman Lecture series on March 6, 2015, his message was about being humble and helping others understand how important and special they are to God.

Terry Ehresman of Wichita, Kansas, joined the Office of Student Life as the director of career services and first year programs on March 9. Ehresman comes to Sterling College with more than 25 years of engineering experience in the aerospace industry, serving in a variety of management roles. As a hiring manager, he has seen hundreds of resumes and mentored many college students in the transition from college to their first full-time jobs.

Sterling College is the one of the first private colleges in Kansas to become a member of the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement, making Sterling College Online classes available to students in 19 other states approved by SARA. SARA is a nationwide initiative of states that will make distance education courses more accessible to students across state lines and make it easier for states to regulate and institutions to participate in interstate distance education.
Ryan “Pete” Manely received the honor of being the first athletic trainer inducted into the Barton Community College Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday, Jan. 24. Manely is the director of the Athletic Training Program and director of graduate studies at Sterling College.
The 2015 Student Printmaking Show will take place on Thursday, Jan. 29, from 5-7 p.m. in the Sterling College Art and Media Center gallery. Students in the interterm class AR140 Introduction to Printmaking will display their work and will also have prints and cards created through a variety of printmaking techniques for sale during the show opening. All money goes to the student who made the work, therefore cash is preferred. Checks will be accepted by some students. Work that is not sold at the show opening will be on display until Feb. 20.
