Twins are a rare phenomenon in the world, and according to the Twin Foundation, they account for approximately two percent of the general population. But at Sterling College in Sterling, Kan., twins account for six percent of the new students on campus – tripling the national average.
Sterling College Athletic Director Gary Kempf and Women’s Basketball Head Coach Lonnie Kruse announced today that K.C. Bassett has been named associate head coach of the Lady Warriors and successor to Kruse upon his retirement.
New water fountains around the Sterling College campus have two new features: a spout to fill up water bottles and a counter that keeps track of how many plastic water bottles are saved through using the fountain. After only being installed for a few months, the counters already read that Sterling College students have saved over 4,000 plastic water bottles from landfills.
The musical “South Pacific,” directed by Matthew Winning, assistant professor of theater arts, will open on Oct. 17 at 8 p.m. in Culbertson Auditorium in Spencer Hall. This family-friendly comedy, with music and lyrics by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, will run through Oct. 19.
In 21 months, Sterling College’s computers have returned 73,997 calculations to World Community Grid, the world’s largest nonprofit computing grid that uses surplus power from computers around the world to research problems that influence society.
Scott Carter ’88 is now serving as vice president for institutional advancement at Sterling College. He will oversee planned giving, the annual fund, alumni relations, the advancement database and other general advancement office functions.
Not only does the 2013 Sterling College Homecoming feature all of the traditional events of Homecomings in years past, but this year's Homecoming has a special event: the inauguration of Scott Rich, Sterling College's 12th president. The inauguration ceremony will take place on Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., in Culbertson Auditorium located in Spencer Hall.
Over the weekend, the Sterling College debate and forensics team successfully co-hosted and competed in the 7th annual Debates on a Plain Invitational. This tournament featured 19 colleges and universities from across the nation, including over 600 entries.
The semester before clinical teaching, all Sterling College students majoring in education are required to participate in the Clinical Teaching Interview process. This year, the Clinical Teaching Interviews will take place on Oct. 1, with individual interviews scheduled from 6–7:30 p.m.
Sterling College’s enrollment for the 2013-2014 academic year reached the third highest enrollment in the College’s history. With a large class of first-time freshmen and the largest group of fully-admitted students, Sterling College’s headcount totals 690 students.
