The public will get its first chance to enjoy the new Culbertson Auditorium renovations at the Sterling College theatre department’s performance of “The Glass Menagerie.” The play, directed by Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts Matthew Winning, opens Thursday, Feb. 27, and runs through March 1. The box office will open on show nights at 7 p.m., doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the play begins at 8 p.m.
Despite the loss of many seniors last year, the Sterling College debate team continues to surprise the competition by regularly advancing past larger, more seasoned teams. Junior Brandon Hoesli of Salina, Kan., has led the team with numerous bids to the final rounds of both Lincoln-Douglas debate and Parliamentary debate.
The Black History Month Convocation at Sterling College has featured many examples of present-day leaders, and Dr. Bernard Franklin is no exception. Franklin is the president at Junior Achievement of Middle America, special assistant to the vice president for student life at Kansas State University, and president and chief imagineering associate at the Center for Imagineering Leadership.
Sterling College Online senior Destiny Lalicker of Kinsley, Kan., was awarded the Doug Barnett History Student Scholarship by the Kansas Association of American Educators on Jan. 17.
The midnight deadline is looming, and the Sterling College Office of Financial Aid is ready to help. This year’s Kansas state deadline for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid is April 1, 2014, at midnight, and some state and federal aid operates on a first-come, first-served basis. To help area students get in the front of the line, Sterling College is hosting FAFSA night on Thursday, Feb. 27, from 6-9 p.m.
Sterling College’s Gleason Center was evacuated on Thursday, February 6 in between the men’s and women’s basketball games between the Sterling Warriors and the Tabor College Blue Jays due to smoke.
During the evacuation when officials were going to determine the cause of the smoke, flames started rising against the west wall.
The Sterling Fire Department responded to emergency calls and extinguished the blaze.
The Sterling Baseball field has received another renovation with the addition of a 10 inning scoreboard thanks to a significant donation by the Hill family.
The fall 2013 Sterling College Dean’s Honor Roll has been released with 207 students named to the list. To earn this honor, students must have a gpa of 3.50 or better in at least 12 credits of residential work or 10 credits for Sterling College Online students.
