Sterling College’s homecoming musical, Children of Eden, will take place in Culbertson Auditorium, October 13-15, at 8:00 p.m. on the Sterling College campus. This musical is noteworthy as it is the last musical production by the Gordon Kling and Diane De Franco-Kling as they are retiring at the end of the academic year.
The Sterling College Debate Team won the Debates on a Plain Invitational Tournament for the 4th consecutive year. The team captured 1st place overall, with more than a 60 point advantage over the 2nd place team, Cameron University. Sterling College advanced four out of their five doubles teams to the elimination rounds, amassing an overall record of 22-10. Team members also competed in the forensics portion, or individual events, of the tournament with Jessica Brayton capturing 2nd in Extemporaneous Speaking.
Five employees were recognized for reaching milestones in their careers at Sterling College. Gladys Ritterhouse and Nancy Hicks have worked at the college for 10 years, Janet Caywood and Deb Wiebe for 15 years, and Margaret Calderwood for 20 years.
Two employees were recognized for 30 years of service at the annual Kick-Off Banquet at Sterling College. Marge Jones diligently worked in admissions for over 25 of those years, during which she processed approximately 5,000 deposits and 25,000 applications, worked with more than 350,000 enquiries, and generated over 2,000,000 pieces of mail for Sterling College.
Sterling College’s annual homecoming celebration will begin Thursday, October 13, with the homecoming musical Children of Eden starting at 8:00 p.m. Other festivities will include class reunions for the classes of ’56, ’61, ’71, ’81, ’91, ’01 and ’06, pancake breakfast, parade, Homecoming Hangout, campus tours, barbeque, crowning of homecoming royalty, football game against Bethel College, introductions into the Warrior Athletic Hall of Fame, and alumni banquet.
The Sterling College Department of Music will host its 2nd Annual Composer Festival on Monday, October 3, 2011. This year’s festival will feature guest artist Joseph Martin, who is well-known throughout the United States for his choral compositions. There will be three free events open to the public.
Sterling College hosted 16 area school districts along with two Sterling professors and 18 students for national assessment training for PE and Health educators. The health training took place on Wednesday, September 21, followed by the physical education training on Thursday.
On Friday, October 7, Sterling College will have Dale Levering, Sterling’s Associate Professor of Business and McVay Chair of Business, as its 2011 Oscar Schmidt Convocation speaker. The event will be held in Culbertson Auditorium on the Sterling College campus at 10:00 a.m. The event is open to the public. Unknown Object
