The Sterling College Office of Student Life and the City of Sterling are excited to announce the adoption of City-wide Community Cleanup Day as a part of 2023 Love Sterling!

The 13th Annual Love Sterling event will be on Saturday, April 22, and the group is looking for projects to help with. Sterling College will spend the day serving the community of Sterling by helping community members with various projects, including painting, landscaping, deep cleaning and more.

Sterling College will welcome Leah Amico, professional and inspirational speaker with over 20 years of experience, on Friday, April 14, for two special events. Amico will deliver the Chapel message at 10 a.m. in Culbertson Auditorium in Spencer Hall. She will also deliver a message at the Keynote Event at 7:30 p.m. in the Gleason Center on the campus of Sterling College. The Keynote Event is free but requires a ticket. For the summer of 2023, Sterling College is offering all general education courses for the low price of $145 per credit hour. The list of classes has been released with classes beginning May 9 and June 27. Visit online.sterling.edu/summer-discount-class-offerings for information.

Sterling College has announced a new way for alumni to support their alma mater by referring the next generation of Sterling College Warriors. The Warrior Alumni Referral Program provides a $4,000 scholarship over four years to students referred by alumni through the program.

Legendary music theatre composer/lyricist the late Stephen Sondheim wrote many iconic musicals but the one that broke the traditional musical mold and started a new wave of concept musicals is “Company.” The revolutionary musical will have an unusual staging at Sterling College Theatre in Upper Wilson Hall on Friday and Saturday, February 10 and 11 at 7:30 p.m. 

Seventeen Sterling College Theatre students and two professors attended the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival last week in Des Moines, Iowa. The regional festival attracted over 1,300 participants from colleges and universities from seven midwestern states. 

The KC/ACTF ran from January 23-27 and included numerous workshops, sessions, performances, auditions, competitions and a costume parade. This was the first in-person conference since 2020. 

The Kansas Academy of Science awarded Sterling College junior Sophia Hodge of Topeka, one of three undergraduate grants in the state of Kansas for the 2022-23 school year. Hodge’s project is “Assessment of Bacillus mojavensis BM1 found in Kansas as a Candidate for Bio-fertilizer and Microbial Pesticide.”
