Sterling College uses a state of the art Athletic Training Clinic designed for the clinical education of Athletic Training Students as well as providing services to over 350 student/athletes on 15 different varsity and junior varsity athletic teams. The Athletic Training Clinic at Sterling College services student athletes with separate areas for treatment such as: taping and bandaging, hydrotherapy, therapeutic modalities treatments, and rehabilitation.
In its continued commitment to academics Sterling College has used its resources to transform a classroom of Gleason Gymnasium into a modern Athletic Training Laboratory for classroom teaching and clinical skills practice. The Athletic Training Laboratory houses educational materials, anatomical models, and equipment for rehabilitation and clinical review.
Affiliate Sites
Sterling College utilizes a variety of affiliate sites to provide our students with great clinical experiences. Since 2003 the SC AT Program has maintained a relationship with The Summit located in Hutchinson, Kansas. The Summit houses three separate clinical experiences including Alliance Sports Medicine and Orthopedics, Pinnacle Rehabilitation, and Summit Surgical. As part of their outreach services, The Summit also provides certified athletic trainers to Hutchinson High School athletics. The SC AT Program utilizes these athletic trainers as preceptors and is able to give its students experience in the high school setting.
The SC AT Program is blessed to have another great clinical site with the Sterling/Lyons Medical Center. These sites allow students experiences with physicians in their daily practice and gives them exposure to general medical concerns facing their patients. The most recent addition to the clinical education sites is with Advanced Physical Therapy, a physical therapy clinic which now services patients in SC AT Clinic.
Immersive Sites
Students within the program are required to engage in a 4-week minimum immersive experience. These experiences are different from “normal” clinical experiences as they are more intentional to prepare the students for the job setting.
