Sterling College student journalism racked up more recognition recently by securing victories in the Kansas Collegiate Media Contest.
Junior Taya Wilson, of Sterling, came away as an individual winner. Also, the Sterling College Observer newspaper, which is in its second year as the campus newspaper, once again received a Silver designation in the overall category, in which publications can earn one or none of three overall honors within their classification.
The Student Government Association continues with an event open to the Sterling community, the Mental Health Awareness Fair.

The Student Government Association at Sterling College has been busy this spring and that continues with an event open to the Sterling community, the Mental Health Awareness Fair. The Fair will take place on Saturday, May 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on East Cooper Lawn and will feature events such as a cake walk, face painting, pledge signing, art show, movies, snacks and other activities. The event is free and open to the public.
Business students are competing in the Community Bank Case Study Competition.

Sterling College business students are competing against over fifty student teams from 39 colleges and universities across the nation in the 2021 CSBS Community Bank Case Study Competition. The student teams will partner with local community banks to examine how they have navigated the Covid-19 pandemic and what they are doing for diversity and inclusion. Sterling students partnered with the First Bank of Sterling for the competition.
Sterling College has signed articulation agreements.

Sterling College has recently signed articulation agreements with Emporia State University for three graduate business programs. The Masters of Accountancy program contract originally signed by the two schools in 2015 has been renewed. Additionally Sterling has new agreements with Emporia State in the Master of Business Administration program and Master of Information Technology program by way of the new articulation agreements.
Sterling College students Sydney Bangert, of Kingman, and Johanna Beck, of McPherson, were both awarded Green and Gold scholarships.

Sterling College students Sydney Bangert, of Kingman, and Johanna Beck, of McPherson, were both awarded Green and Gold scholarships from the Kansas Independent College Foundation. KICF received 55 nominations for its collection of merit-based scholarships. A volunteer panel of nine judges helped select the 22 winners. Each nominated student had to submit detailed essays about their leadership training, their future career goals, and why they chose an independent option for their higher education.
Sterling College students, faculty, staff and community members joined together to Serve Sterling, Kansas.

On Saturday, April 24, there were 225 Sterling College students, faculty, staff and community members who joined together to serve the town of Sterling, Kan., by participating in the event Love Sterling, a city-wide service day. The coordinator of Love Sterling, Emilie Holland, missions director and resident director, and several students had been planning the event since January.
Sterling College honored six students who were inducted into Alpha Chi.

Sterling College honored six students who were inducted into Alpha Chi on Monday, April 26, 2021. The collegiate chapter of the National Honor Society includes juniors and seniors who are in the top 10 percent of their class. The inductees were Melissa Barth of Oakbrook , Ill.; Ardynn Hershberger of Lyons, Kan.; Anna Lapp of Hesston, Kan.; Cara Lapp of Hesston, Kan.; Jackson Lewis of Andover, Kan.; and Shara Shepard of Bennington , Kan.

When it comes to musicals, Sterling College Theatre seems to believe in the adage: bigger is better. Even in this pandemic year Sterling’s music and theatre departments have combined to present two big cast musicals. After presenting “Carousel” in January, the directors, students and designers are hard at work for “Catch Me If You Can,” which will be performed Friday and Saturday, April 23 and 24 at 7:30 p.m., and on Sunday, April 25 at 2 p.m.

Who says jazz music and classical music don’t mix? Not the Sterling College Music Department. The instrumental music program will be presenting an unusual concert this Sunday, April 18 at 3 p.m. in Upper Wilson Hall that will include both jazz and classical styles of music and will feature both the Jazz Band and the Flute Trio.
Paul Brandes will be the speaker for the 2021 Sterling College Commencement ceremony.

Paul Brandes ’11, chaplain and associate vice president for student life and church relations, will be the speaker for the 2021 Sterling College Commencement ceremony. The ceremony will honor the Class of 2020 and the Class of 2021 and will take place on Saturday, May 15, at 9:45 a.m. on East Cooper Lawn on the Sterling College campus.
