Sterling College Student and Professors Speak at State Math Conference

Each year Kansas colleges send their math majors to the Kansas Association of Teachers of Mathematics annual conference-to watch, listen, and learn. They generally aren't leading sessions. Sterling College senior Kelli LaRosh, however, joined two of her professors, Dr. Beth Kilday and Professor Terri Gaeddert, and presented at the KATM's most recent conference, held on October 23 at Hays High School

Students Serve as Caution Flaggers at Inman Motocross Races

On November 1, as riders at Inman Motocross prepared to race and jump at 40-70 miles per hour, twenty-two Sterling College students spaced themselves around the track. If there was an accident, the SC students had a job to do: step out onto the track and begin waving a large yellow caution flag.

Sterling College and Hutchinson Community College Sign Articulation Agreement

On November 12 Sterling College and Hutchinson Community College announced an articulation agreement that guarantees the transfer of credits between the two institutions. Sterling College's Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Troy Peters and HCC President Dr. Edward Berger signed the agreement. "For transfer students, there is always the concern that some credits will not transfer," said Peters. "This agreement takes away that concern."

Sterling College Music Department Invites the Public to “Celebrate Christmas”

On Sunday, December 6, at 3:30 p.m. in Upper Wilson Hall, the Sterling College music department will present "Celebrate Christmas." The public is invited to kick off the holiday season with music performed by the Sterling College concert band, concert choir, and the Sterling chorale.

Dr. Paul J. Maurer, Sterling College president, and Andrew Tash and Ken Troyer, both assistant professors in the communications department, have spoken at formal occasions recently, and Dr. Brad Nix, chair of the music department, has had another composition accepted for publication.

Senior Art Exhibit on Display

Sterling College senior Megan Derowitsch of Belleville, Kan., has her senior exhibition displayed in the Art and Design Center from now through December 10. The exhibition is free and open to the public and features pottery, photography, paintings, etc. The Art and Design Center is located on the corner of 8th and Washington Streets in Sterling. The Art Center is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Academy Students Serve as Guinea Pigs for SC Psychology Class

"Psychology tastes so good!" This was the reaction of the Sterling Academy students after they acted as guinea pigs for Sterling College's general psychology class. Why did they respond that way? The College students gave them treats and candy to thank them for being such willing test subjects.

Students Meet with World Vision Representatives

"It was inspiring to know there are organizations and people who are doing things-so often the news is only negative," said Jaclyn Coxwell, a senior at Sterling College, after meeting with representatives from World Vision, a Christian organization dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice. It is one of the largest relief organizations in the world.
