New Role for Cureton at Sterling College

Luke Cureton ’03 is returning to Sterling College’s Office of Institutional Advancement as the director of development for annual programs.

“I’m thrilled to welcome Luke to the team. His 21-year affiliation with Sterling will prove beneficial to building relationships with alumni and friends that will lead to increased giving,” said Scott Carter, vice president for institutional advancement and external relations.

SC connections draw in new staff

Sterling College announced the hire of Renard Ballard ’14 and Erica Tremaine during the month of July. Ballard will begin as assistant resident director of Kilbourn Hall in mid-July, and Tremaine began her role as the administrative receptionist and office manager July 1.

Anonymous $150,000 gift for scholarships received

An anonymous donor has significantly influenced future Sterling College students by giving $150,000 to the endowed scholarship fund for future scholarships.

“These friends strongly believe in the College and its importance to the Sterling community. They feel blessed by God and wanted to bless the College and keep it strong. The funds will go into the general scholarship endowment, thereby helping provide funds for student scholarships in the future,” said Dr. Marvin Dewey, associate vice president for leadership giving and special projects.

18th annual Sterling College Warrior Wood and Wedge Tournament

The Sterling Athletic Department hosted the 18th annual Sterling College Warrior Wood and Wedge Tournament in North Newton, Kan. at the beautiful Sand Creek Station golf course on Monday, June 23rd.

Oklahoma Wesleyan to Join KCAC in Fall 2015

The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) announces Oklahoma Wesleyan University has accepted an invitation for membership. The Eagles will begin KCAC competition starting in Fall 2015. The KCAC Board of Presidents voted to extend the invitation to Oklahoma Wesleyan during their June 4, 2014 meeting in Ottawa, Kansas.

New Trustee Leadership Named

The Sterling College Board of Trustees elected Randy Henry ’72 as chair of the Board, Glennys Doane ’73 as vice chair and Joe Lang ’66 as secretary during their May meeting. The new positions took effect during the last session of the May Board meeting.

Henry has served on the Board of Trustees since 1983. He has served as Board secretary and vice chair of the finance and investment committee.

SC receives Community Grant from the South Central Community Foundation

The South Central Community Foundation in Pratt, Kan., awarded Sterling College with a grant to purchase an Epson 3880 printer. The grant was awarded in November 2013 and the Department of Art and Design first used the printer for the annual Juried Student Show. The Department of Art and Design has relied heavily on the printer this past year.

192 named to Sterling College’s Dean’s Honor Roll

Caywood, Looney join Sterling College staff

Steve Caywood and Garrett Looney joined the staff of Sterling College earlier this month. Caywood returned to Sterling College’s physical plant to serve as director, and Looney became the coordinator of online student services.

Sterling College sends out 37 on cross-cultural trips

Four teams departed from Sterling College over the past week to serve in other countries. The 37 students, staff and alumni traveled to East Asia, Guatemala, India, and Panama.
