Music Faculty
Sean Foster
Sean is excited to be a part of the team at Sterling College. He specializes in vocal pedagogy and performance based on anatomy and physiology and how they affect sound. Working as a vocalist and a pianist, Sean has performed as a collaborator and soloist throughout the country. As a music educator, Sean has worked in classrooms of all levels, most of his work taking place in choral music at the high school level. Sean has degrees from Wichita State University and from Western Illinois University. Additionally, Sean has a deep love of music and youth ministry.
Dr. Christina J. George
Dr. Christie George is a philosopher of aesthetics and musicologist, holding a doctoral degree from Claremont Graduate University where her research focused on linguistic and philosophical implications that attend the notion of “Taste” as it is presented in 18th century philosophical and musical treatises. She has written and presented on topics including taste, the philosophy of art, German Idealism, the role of the self in contemporary worship music, and the phenomenology of Jean-Luc Marion at conferences in the U.S. and Europe.
Larry Brownlee
Returning to his Alma Mater, Larry Brownlee ’80 joined Sterling College as a full-time faculty member with over 35 years of experience as an instrumental music teacher. Previously a full-time faculty member at Sterling High School, Larry has taught instrumental music in three school systems at elementary through high school levels, coached athletics, served as sponsor for numerous extracurricular clubs, and served as an adjudicator for multiple music festivals and competitions. He earned his M.M.Ed. from Wichita State University, his B.A.
Marisa Callan
Callan graduated from Sterling College in 2005 with her bachelor’s in music education and completed her M.M. in Conducting from California Baptist University in 2010. She is an experienced pianist, vocalist and professor, having taught several courses as an adjunct and full-time professor at California Baptist. Callan is joining Sterling College from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where she has been serving as a minister of music for Bethany Baptist Church.
