Dr. Todd Vogts

Todd R. Vogts, Ph.D. (Kansas State University, 2023), serves the Department of Communication, Media, and Theatre Arts as an assistant professor of media. He is also the department’s co-chair, and he sits on various committees. Dr. Vogts advises student media at Sterling College and teaches courses in communication, journalism, and digital media. He also pursues an active research agenda that focuses on mis- and disinformation, the intersection of media and democracy, sports media, community and rural journalism, and journalism education.

Prior to becoming an academic, Dr. Vogts practiced professional journalism. He ran a weekly newspaper in central Kansas as the editor-in-chief, and he worked as a staff reporter for various publications. He also completed stints in radio broadcasting and public relations. He still does professional journalism as a freelance reporter and writer. 

As part of his professional journey, he became an educator who teaches journalism and media courses while advising student publications. His experience as an educator includes more than a decade in the classroom and working with students of various ages.

Vogts earned his Master of Arts (M.A.) in Journalism with an emphasis in Media Management from the University of Missouri in 2018, his Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Education with an emphasis in journalism education from Fort Hays State University in 2012, and his Bachelor of Arts (B.A) degree in Communication with an emphasis in print journalism from Wichita State University in 2008. He also holds an Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree in Journalism from Hutchinson Community College, which he earned in 2006.
