Scott Carter ’88 is now serving as vice president for institutional advancement at Sterling College. He will oversee planned giving, the annual fund, alumni relations, the advancement database and other general advancement office functions.

Not only does the 2013 Sterling College Homecoming feature all of the traditional events of Homecomings in years past, but this year's Homecoming has a special event: the inauguration of Scott Rich, Sterling College's 12th president. The inauguration ceremony will take place on Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., in Culbertson Auditorium located in Spencer Hall.

The semester before clinical teaching, all Sterling College students majoring in education are required to participate in the Clinical Teaching Interview process. This year, the Clinical Teaching Interviews will take place on Oct. 1, with individual interviews scheduled from 6–7:30 p.m.

Sterling College’s enrollment for the 2013-2014 academic year reached the third highest enrollment in the College’s history. With a large class of first-time freshmen and the largest group of fully-admitted students, Sterling College’s headcount totals 690 students.

The Sterling College choir has been working hard to prepare for the 4th annual Composer Festival which will take place Oct. 3–4, and will conclude with a concert on Oct. 4, held at the Sterling United Presbyterian Church at 7 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public. This year’s festival will feature the works of composer Craig Courtney.

Sterling College was named to the U.S. News & World Report ranking for Best Regional Colleges – Midwest. Based on undergraduate peer assessment, retention, graduation rate, class size, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving, Sterling was ranked 61st.

Sterling College has been named on the 2014 Military Friendly Schools list by Victory Media.

Governor Sam Brownback declared September 16-22, 2013, to be Kansas Private College Week, celebrating the valuable work of Kansas’ private colleges. Sterling College is using this opportunity to inform its students, alumni and friends of the College on the importance of private colleges in the state of Kansas through their website and social media presence on Facebook and Twitter.

On Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, Sterling College will be hosting the Phi Beta Lambda Fall State Leadership Conference. PBL is the collegiate subdivision of Future Business Leaders of America, and Sterling College has been a member of this organization since 2011.

Wichita artist Adam Anderson will exhibit his artwork in the Sterling College Art and Media Center gallery Sept. 19 – Oct. 10. The exhibit of graphic design work will open with a reception with Anderson on Sept. 19 from 5-7 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
