Nic Martinez

Nic Martinez is in his seventh year here at Sterling College, and is now set to begin his first official year as Head Men's Soccer coach in the fall of 2017. Coach Martinez has been a part of the Sterling soccer programs for the past seven years, working as an assistant for both the women's and men's soccer teams. As a former Warrior and standout keeper himself, Martinez has been the goalkeeper coach for both the women's and men's programs during his time at Sterling. Coach Martinez also played professional soccer for the Wichita Wings and the Wichita B-52s in Wichita, Kan.

The 40th Annual Honors Convocation was held in Culbertson Auditorium on Friday, April 21. More than 100 students were recognized for receiving scholarships and awards, as well as being named to Who’s Who Among Students in America’s Colleges and Universities. Each scholarship and award has various criteria chosen by the donor at the establishment of the award or scholarship. Service Awards were given to sophomore Mikaela Wells of Haven, Kansas, and Terry Ehresman, Director of Career Services and First Year Programs.

Sterling College junior Aaron Pinkerton of Minneola, Kansas, was one of eight math majors from across the United States selected for a research experience for undergraduates at California State University, Fresno. In it, he and two other students worked under the guidance of Dr. Steve Chung, assistant professor of mathematics at Fresno State, to create a mathematical tool that would accurately predict the success rate of endovenous laser ablation given factors of the surgery.

Larry Dashiell ’76, retired senior director for Portland Public Schools, will be the speaker for the 2017 Sterling College Commencement ceremony. The ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 13, at 9:45 a.m. on East Cooper Lawn on the Sterling College campus. The event is open to the public.

Learning the behind-the-scenes role of directing this semester, 10 Sterling College students have each worked to prepare a one-act play on May 4 and 5 at 8 p.m. in Culbertson Auditorium.

Learning the behind-the-scenes role of directing this semester, 10 Sterling College students have each worked to prepare a one-act play on May 4 and 5 at 8 p.m. in Culbertson Auditorium. Each one-act play will be approximately 10 minutes and include a variety of genres. The free event is open to the public.

Students directing one-act plays include: Dani Goldberg, Jordan Himes, Celosia Johnson, Kalie King, Alyssa Landeros, Kevin Megginson, Katie O’Brien, Abbey Pickering, Courtney Swanson and Claire Zerull.

Love Sterling to take place on Saturday

The weekend is looking busy for Sterling College as students, employees and community volunteers as they spread across the town to complete projects such as landscaping, painting and house cleaning.

The weekend is looking busy for Sterling College as students, employees and community volunteers as they spread across the town to complete projects such as landscaping, painting and house cleaning. There will be a Celebration Dinner at 6 p.m. on East Cooper Lawn for the town of Sterling to enjoy, followed by a night of music by the Christian band Cloverton. In the event of wet weather, volunteers will work on the projects that can be completed in the rain.
