Jodi Lightner ’01 will be showcasing her artwork in an exhibit at Sterling College on Thursday, Feb. 28, with a reception from 5-7 p.m. in the Art and Media Center gallery. Lightner’s show, “Escape Route (Flight),” will display works created with acrylic, ink, graphite and oil on Mylar that she has developed over the past three years.

The exhibit will be on display through March 18.“I am fascinated by the way the architectural structures we build mimic how we move through and experience life,” said Lightner. “The idea that we all inhabit and occupy communal places gives me an exciting opportunity to share my work within these spaces with the community of Sterling.”

Assistant Professor of Art and Design Hanna Kozlowski-Slone said, “It is exciting to have a Sterling College alumna return to display work in the gallery. I am intrigued by the way in which Jodi employs color and manipulates her materials to articulate a space that is constantly shifting between realism and abstraction. I am confident that her body of work will create an engaging experience for the community.”

Lightner, originally from Inman, Kan., graduated from Sterling College with a B.A. in Art and Design and from Wichita State University with an M.F.A. in Painting. She has participated in juried and invitational shows that have been exhibited nationally and internationally. Lightner completed artist residencies at the International School of Painting, Drawing, and Sculpture in Monte Castello di Vibio, Italy, and the Vermont Student Center in Johnson, Vt. Most recently, she partook in a residency at Penn State Altoona, after which she joined the faculty at Montana State University Billings where she is currently a painting and drawing professor.
