Jaderston takes record for most wins
Dean Jaderston became Sterling College's men's basketball career leader in victories on Thursday night in Wichita, Kan. The Warriors delivered victory number 108 to Jaderston with an 87-75 win over Friends University after trailing by five points at halftime. Jaderston surpasses Jim Woudstra, who had a Sterling record of 107-192. Currently, Jaderston is 108-87 at Sterling and 158-203 as a head coach.
In a tightly contested match-up, Raheem Odomes provided a major spark on both ends of the floor, ending the game with 33 points, 14 rebounds, and two blocked shots. Eleven of Odomes's 14 rebounds were on the defensive end as the senior guard from Copperas Cove, Texas continued to make play after play for the Warriors.
After leading for the first five minutes of the ballgame, Sterling fell behind when Friends's Dylan Hawkins scored of a Colton Rausch assist to take an 11-9 Falcon lead.
Friends would build the lead throughout half, pushing the lead to seven points twice in the period.
The Warriors would keep the game close, but go into the half trailing 31-36.
Odomes scored 14 of his 33 points in the first period while Adam Brown had seven points and five rebounds in the first half.
Junian Johnson paced the Falcons' first half scoring effort with seven points off of the bench, which would outscore the Sterling bench 28-22 in the game.
Just 3:23 into the second half, Odomes would tie the game with a free throw. After some back and forth play, Eddie Adesodun would hit a three point basket off of a Darius Alexander assist to give Sterling its first lead of the half 46-43.
After Sterling built the second half lead to six with 12:51 to play, the Falcons responded by grabbing a one point lead with 9:48 to play off of a Johnson basket.
Alexander answered with a three point basket for Sterling on the very next possession to give Sterling the 57-55 lead, which Sterling would not relinquish the rest of the game.
Jamal Green provided some timely baskets, scoring seven second half points while Brandon Stacker would make multiple hustle plays to earn Sterling valuable extra possessions as the Warriors pushed the lead to ten points with 4:24 to play.
Down the stretch, every time Friends would make a play, Odomes answered for Sterling.
The Falcons were able to cut the lead to five points with 1:29 to play, but an Alexander field goal and four Odomes free throws would preserve the victory. Stacker would add an exclamation point on the victory with an emphatic slam with nine seconds left to push the final score to an 87-75 Sterling win.
Odomes's 33 points led all scorers and his 14 rebounds led all rebounders in the game. Also in double figure scoring for Sterling was Adesodun with 14 points and Alexander with 11 points.
Four Falcons scored in double figures, led by Zach Nelson with 15 points. Junian Johnson added 13 points, Brandon Johnson added 12 points and Thomas Bland had ten points.
With the win, Sterling improves to 10-6 on the season, 4-1 in the KCAC. Sterling's next game is on Saturday at 7:00 pm as the Warriors host Kansas Wesleyan University at the Gleason Center. Catch the game live on the Sterling College Sports Network.
