Lady Warriors Win; Clinch Home Playoff Game
North Newton, Kan. - With a 4-3 win over the Bethel College Threshers, the Sterling College Lady Warriors Women's Soccer team clinched a tie for third in the KCAC final regular season standings. SC used 15 shots with eight finding the frame to score four goals and win a close game over Bethel.
Senior Kylie Yates started the scoring for Sterling, scoring off of a Yesenia Garcia assist in the 8th minute. Bethel's Linsey Laird tied the game in the 20th minute. The Lady Warriors responded by taking a lead into halftime after Karina Noah scored in the 35th minute.
Anely Laguna added to the Lady Warrior lead early in the second half, scoring in the 52nd minute. Laird would bring the score back to a 3-2 Sterling lead by scoring in the 65th minute. Yates would add a needed insurance goal in the 78th minute off of an Ashley Redinger assist. The insurance goal was needed because Bethel's Kelsie Wilson would score in the 84th minute to give Bethel hope for a late rally. Sterling would hold on in the final six minutes for a 4-3 victory.
With the win, SC finishes the 2010 regular season with a 10-7-1 record, 5-3-1 in the KCAC. The Lady Warriors will be seeded fourth in the KCAC Tournament and will host McPherson College on Friday in Sterling at 4:00 pm.
