Kruse, Gasper Headline KCAC All-Conference Awards
Wichita, Kan. - The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) released its All-Conference Awards during "Championship Monday" at Hartman Arena. Sterling College players and coaches won 11 awards highlighted by Coach Lonnie Kruse winning KCAC Coach of the Year and Britany Gasper winning KCAC Player of the Year.
Gasper, Jannica Schultze, and Laura Patrick were all named to the All-KCAC First Team. Erica Herman and Madison Lucas were named All-KCAC Honorable Mention. Schultze and Gasper were both named to the All-KCAC Defensive Team and Patrick was named to the All-KCAC Freshmen Team. Gaper received the highest honor in the KCAC by being named Player of the Year, and was a unanimous pick to the All-KCAC First Team while Patrick was voted the top freshman in the conference, earning the KCAC Freshman of the Year award.
Gasper, a 5'10" senior forward from Tipton, Kansas, was a unanimous pick to the All-KCAC First Team, was named an All-KCAC Defender and was voted the KCAC Player of the Year. On the season, Gasper is averaging 14.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 0.94 blocks per game.
Schultze, the 5'6" senior guard from Waldo, Kansas, was named to both the All-KCAC First Team and the All-KCAC Defensive Team. Schultze is averaging 7.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game.
Patrick, a 5'10" freshman guard from Hutchinson, Kansas, was named to both the All-KCAC First Team and the All-KCAC Freshman Team. Patrick is averaging 10.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. Patrick was also named the KCAC Freshman of the Year.
Herman, the 5'5" senior guard from Rose Hill, Kansas, earned All-KCAC Honorable Mention Honors. Herman is averaging 6.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.4 steals per game.
Lucas, a 5'10" senior forward from Rose Hill, Kansas, earned All-KCAC Honorable Mention Honors. Lucas is averaging 8.5 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.
Head Coach Lonnie Kruse was named the KCAC Coach of the Year for the eleventh time in his career after leading the Warriors to a fifth straight KCAC Regular Season Title as Co-Champions this year.
Sterling, winning its 12th KCAC regular season title with a 16-2 KCAC record will be representing the KCAC in next week's NAIA Division II Women's National Tournament in Sioux City, Iowa, on March 9-15, 2011. Kansas Wesleyan University will also be representing the KCAC. The brackets for the upcoming tournament are expected to be announced Wednesday, March 2, by the NAIA.
