Sterling College invites students, faculty, and the community to its Faith and Learning Conference on Friday, March 28. This event will feature thought-provoking discussions and presentations exploring the intersection of faith and intellectual inquiry. This event is free and open to the public.

“At Sterling College, we are committed to the project of faith seeking understanding. The Faith and Learning Conference is a concrete display of that commitment, integrating devotional faith with academic inquiry,” said Dr. Shebuel Varghese, director for the integration of faith and learning.

The conference will begin with Session 1 at 10 a.m. in Culbertson Auditorium, featuring keynote speaker Jeff Reimer, senior editor of Comment magazine. His presentation, titled “The Intellectual Virtues of the Small Magazine,” will explore the role of small publications in shaping thoughtful discourse. Reimer writes regularly on literature, art, faith, and culture, with work appearing in Commonweal, Plough, Fare Forward, and The Bulwark. He lives in Newton, Kansas, with his wife and four children.

Session 2 will take place at 1 p.m. in Heritage Hall in Cooper Hall and will showcase student presentations. Three selected students will present their original papers, which will address the question: “How does our learning of (specific topic chosen) inform the way we understand and live out our faith?” Each presentation will last 11 minutes, followed by 4-5 minutes of audience Q&A. The strongest paper will be awarded a prize.

Sterling College students interested in presenting are encouraged to submit a 5-6 page paper by March 14 to Dr. Shebuel Varghese at shebuel.varghese@sterling.edu. Submissions may stem from class assignments or discussions, and topics need not specifically address the Bible or Christian doctrine but should include relevance to Christian understanding and practice.

The Sterling College Faith and Learning Conference is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Dr. Shebuel Varghese at shebuel.varghese@sterling.edu.
