300 Volunteers Serve for 2022 Love Sterling Event
On Saturday, April 23, 300 Sterling College students, faculty, staff and community members joined together to serve the town of Sterling, Kansas, by participating in the event Love Sterling, a city-wide service day. The coordinator of Love Sterling, Emilie Holland, spiritual life assistant and missions director, and several students had been planning the event since January.
A total of 19 projects were planned and completed for Love Sterling. Some of these projects included painting, landscaping, cleaning out the bulb-outs on Main Street, cleaning up around the Sterling Lake, pulling out carpet and projects at businesses such as Clive's and Lil Cub Childcare.
“I am proud to work for an institution that so values Christ's example of servant leadership that our students, staff, faculty, and community members serve our community through Love Sterling. Our volunteers on Saturday worked selflessly and with excitement. I am thankful for the volunteers and our Sterling community for making Love Sterling possible,” said Holland.
Overall, Love Sterling was a community effort with an estimated 1,200 volunteer hours being given over the course of the day.
Love Sterling was created thirteen years ago as a way for Sterling College students and employees to give back to the community that surrounds and supports them in many ways. The annual event is often looked forward to by students and community members alike.
